Bring your dog to work day?
Discussion
It doesn't seem a great idea to be honest. What about people who're scared of them, or allergic to them? And nobody is going to be able to get any work done as they're all playing with animals / stopping them attacking each other / stopping them shagging each other / stopping them s
tting everywhere
I think its fine if its a small office and one person is bringing their dog in and everyone is cool with it... it just sounds like a recipe for disaster for 10-20 people to bring their dogs in

I once nipped in to work with my dog as I needed to pick something up on a Saturday morning.
He ran around like crazy - I don't think he'd ever been in a big open space with carpet, and he seemed to love the grip it gave which allowed him to run in 4 directions at once! There was only 3 other staff members in, but he made sure he licked the face of every one before he left.
That, multiplied by 20 dogs, would be an utter nightmare.

In my previous job, years ago, we regularly had dogs in the office; as said it was fine with one or two (they made great hoovers for dropped food) unfortunately the one that caused problems was mine. The usual two, one belonged to the clerk of works who was out most of the time and the other to the quantity surveyor who worked in a different office downstairs, got on fine. Unfortunately one day I had my German Shepherd in as I had to take her to the vet; she got on fine with the clerk of works' Spaniel cross, but the Labrador decided to have a go at her when it came in so she flattened it. (Nothing nasty she just pinned it to the floor). A GSD is a bit difficult to hide under a desk and I was asked not to bring her in again, a bit unfair as she hadn't started it.
Before that I used to have my Springers in to keep me company when working late and once caught one eating the contents of the sugar bowl, fortunately I don't take sugar so I just topped it up. My current dog would hate it, as he is still very shy with people he doesn't know, so it would not be fair on him.

Where I used to work we'd often have staff bring in dogs to visit, not for the day. Mainly when there was a new puppy to show off. When my dog was a pup he went in on my day off and had a whale of a time, even getting involved in an impromptu in-office football match with a stress all, which he ripped to bits.
Had a girl bring her cat in now and then. If she was going off on holiday it would come in so she could drop it at the clattery. I am allergic to cats and it was a long haired bugger. The problem was it thought the world of me for some reason and insisted on sitting in my desk, batting my hand as I tried to type.
It was a case of taking some antihistamine and the symptoms weren't too bad.
I mainly work from home these days and the dog is with me all day. I have to shut him away when I use the 'phone as sods law says that's when he'll start a noisy game or a bark feat at next door'd cat.

My Saluki regularly goes in with Mrs Sumo if I am out seeing clients (or at Lord's watching the cricket!).
She greets everyone going round every hour or so for strokes and the rest of the time spends her time snoozing under Mrs S's desk - a couple of them aren't dog lovers and she doesn't need telling as she senses it and ignores them.
They like her so much she appears on the company's website!

Im self employed and work wholly on my own so my two dogs go to work with me every day.
Same here. I have a shelf under my desk which our GSD has liked sleeping on since he was a tiny pup. He still sleeps there now while I'm in the office, even though he doesn't really fit there any more. He likes to gently chew my toes while I work before falling asleep with them in his mouth. He's only 18 months old though, I'm sure he'll grow out of it eventually! He's there right now, snoring happily.

Our lurcher, on the other hand, only comes into the office if there's food going or it's nearly time for a walk and she thinks I've forgotten. Otherwise she spends all day in her bed.

Bryn comes to work with me (Jimmy did aswell) as a young pup he'd be inside in a kennel, nos he's bigger he's outside with the other staff dogs (only 2 labs at the mo) they all get on fine and he respects Ruby ths lab who is definitely top dog! They all play but Bryn and other lab Ollie play best, it's great watching them

Bring Your Dog To Work Day (UK) has been started by some friends of mine who have just set up Butch and Bess (dog grooming products)... It is the 27th June. I think it's a great idea as it supports charities even if you don't take your dog in to work with you.
I am very fortunate that I take my two Dachshunds to the office two days a week and the rest of the time I can work from home
we often have 4 dogs there. There are another 2 that aren't allowed to come to the office because of their behaviour. They aren't a distraction, they have a very settled routine and I wouldn't have taken my job if they couldn't come along - they all just sleep all day. Visitors are asked if they are ok with dogs and if not then the dogs don't join us in meetings - (although their presence is often a big bonus!). As for large offices with dogs; I often take them to meetings with companies who I work with who have dog policies - they do have rules for office dogs.
Even more of a bonus, one of my boys had major disc surgery (herniated disc) and I was able to work from home and take leave around it for 3 weeks while he was recovering. Obviously not suitable for all places of work but generally I think it is a great idea and a much happier place to work than others.

About eight or nine years ago when I first heard about this, I proclaimed to all and sundry that my dog WOULD be coming to work with me on that particular day.
I was the warehouse manager so had free reign over my own areas but often had to nip into the shops or offices. The bosses weren't keen, but I gave them Hobsens choice
Anyway, on the appointed day Leo (who was a Lab/Doberman cross, not particularly big and the worlds BEST dog... ever!)came with me wearing a suitably modified company polo shirt. He loved it and had a great day. Big boss wasn't a dog lover at all and was very 'sniffy' about the whole thing. Spent the day doing the usual stuff and Leo just wandered round with me, met all the drivers/fitters and had lots of cuddles/kisses/his share of break time snacks etc, went in the offices and shops, met everbody, met a few other dogs and had a great time.
That afternoon I had to nip out to see a client and couldn't take him so left him in the warehouse with the lads (you could trust Leo to do exactly what you asked him to do), went out in the posh car, came back and found, the big boss (dog hater remember) playing football in the warehouse with Leo! Nothing could interrupt their game for at least another hour and work ground to a halt as people joined in.
Big boss (Peter) had gone out and bought the football especially after accidentally kicking a tennis ball Leo had, Leo of course, returned it....
Peter later bought a beautiful Golden Retriever and takes it everywhere!

If I were your boss I would have announced "bring my warehouse to you living room" day, and turned up the next day and dumped tonnes of pallets of stuff in your house. king like it!Mutts at work....just no. Unless you work on your own.
I work full time so usually my Dad looks after my dog during the day. I've taken her in to work on the odd day that he's been away and she sleeps in a basket under my desk.
She's so quiet I've jumped once or twice when I've turned around and she's been standing behind me. It's a really good motivator to go out for a lunchtime walk rather than sit and eat at my desk (inevitably doing some work rather than taking a break).
She's also a poodle mix and hardly sheds any hair, so doesn't cause a cleaning issue.
I wouldn't do it all the time, as I get called to clients quite a lot and it could amount to quite a boring day stuck in the back of the car for her.
