I have 2 house rabbits that currently live in a standard plastic bottoms/cage topped cage.

As they are now both fully grown and about 3 kilo's each and they are in all day when I'm at work, I decided they needed a bigger cage. I bought a double storey outdoor cage in wood and planned to make it look like a bit of furniture in the spare room rather than an ugly cage in the living room.

All was going swimmingly until I went to bed. All I can hear is them hopping about. The noise is resonating and in the end I had to get up and move them back to the old cage as I was worried If I can hear it fairly loudly then the neighbour below me would also!

I popped some old carpet in there today and its marginally better but still too loud. I have some old underlay type recycled foam. Im thinking if I put this under the carpet it'll dampen out the hop/thud noise.

Any other ideas? If this doesn't work it looks like it'll be de-constructed and sold/given away which would be a giant waste of money.

We used a large dog crate and put covered the floor with a numnah/square sheepskin saddlepad that I found in a charity shop for £2. Very hard-wearing and warm!

Thick cardboard fruit boxes are useful for turning upside down as 'rooms' inside their cage and can last a month or so. If you stack two then you get a multi-level home.
