Second dog help.
Discussion
We are thinking of rescuing a Bull mastiff pup.
She's a 4 month old b
h and we may have missed the boat on her, but if not , how will this affect our other dog, a 15 month old male Bull mastiff?
He is one of the family, and he h as the run of the house, he has been chopped so no breeding, I just apprehensive as we have two young children, will they become a pack ? Will they cause chaos ? ( probably ), silly question, how much extra work is another dog?
The pup don't look neglected, has been vaccinated, we have a big garden and live in a village surrounded by fields.
They wouldn't be left alone for longer than a couple of hours.
We wouldn't really consider a much older dog because we have kids and we wouldn't know the dogs history, they are strong dogs after all.
Our dog is so sociable but as it stands no one will let their dog play with him, would a sibling be just what he needs?
Thanks for all replies.

"how much extra work is another dog?" - its not really that much more work. I've got 4 currently, up from my normal numbers of 1-2.
Whether you've got 1 or 2 or 3 its still the same hassle to walk them. You still need to plan your social life around being home to feed them or let them outside. You still need to decide where you can/can't go with them based on if a dog is allowed there.
The big jump is going from 0 dogs to 1 dog... once you've made that step every further one is all a bit 'no real difference'

We introduced a 6 month old boy into our household to go along with our 2 year old b
h.
There have been only 2 downsides to this IME
1. We are now a lot less interesting to our b
h, she'd rather play with the dog. Good for her maybe, not so great for us. Also playing with them both soon turns into them playing together and me feeling like the boy no-one wants to pick for their football team.
2. We have 2 girls 2 & 5, that means that if we go out for a long walk then the little one needs to be in her buggy, if there's only one adult it's a struggle to manage 2 dogs and a buggy together on narrow paths and country lanes.
Having said that I wouldn't change it, watching them both play fighting on the kids trampoline last night was lovely. I've given up on any hope of hearing the TV or having a conversation when they are playing though, 20 minutes of madness.
You're going to need bin liners and a wheelbarrow when you take them for a walk
