Sorry for poor phone picture but I found this dead thing under some cardboard. It's about 4" long. Scared the crap out of me.

A particularly leggy Slow Worm?

Edit. Just Googled 'Slow Worm'. They have no legs at all (I thought they were similar to Skinks!)

Could be an escaped Skink? Weather's just turned cold enough to kill them, I'd assume.

Regardless, I've cancelled my Channel 5 nature documentaries as really I haven't a fking clue. You're safe for now, Attenborough.

A newt? Sorry, first thing that came into my head. hehe

I thought it was some exotic thing.

Added: By looking at some online photos it does seem to match. It also had a red/orange black spotted belly.

Are they quite common then or has it escaped from somewhere?

No, it's an aborted alien foetus.

Or as Duncan Bannatyne might say, an ewt.

Yes I'd go with newt. They aren't all common and are protected, live their lives in ponds and surrounding area, not sure how this one ended up under cardboard!

I like newts, fascinating part of wild pond life.

It's not a newt, these idiots have no idea.

That's a baby Komodo dragon, the mother will often hide her young under cardboard for protection whilst she goes off to hunt large (human) prey.

Reminds me of a book I once read (was better than the film by the same name, but not much).

I had common newts and a great crested in my pond, and that looks nothing like a great crested.
