Protection for dog's toes
Discussion
Our poor old GSD has, for some time, had arthritis in one of her hind legs. This comes and goes in it's severity but we manage her in terms of exercise, anti-inflammatories, etc and most of the time she's OK, even if we have had the odd scare.
Noticed that she has been licking that foot a lot more so we investigated. Unfortunately, where the arthritis is making her foot so supine (she walks with it slightly tucked underneath her, so all the pressure is on the outside of her foot), this is rubbing the side of her toe raw. Looks really sore, and I bet it's painful. Feel awful that we didn't notice until she started licking it, but in reality how often does anyone check between their dog's toes?
For the time being we have put some corn foam between her toes, and wrapped her foot with vetwrap to keep it in place. That's fine for now, and will hopefully make her a lot more comfortable, but we really need a permanent solution. Does anyone know of anything we could use for this? I've seen these soft claw caps but I'm not sure they would work? Her claws aren't that long, it's just that where she is putting her weight on the side of the foot, it's pressing the claw into the adjacent toe (much like what causes a human corn, except this is just rubbing her raw).

You should probably look at something like this, designed for your dogs needs.

Thanks Bex. Those look like an option - are they tailor-made? I bought a Mikki boot last week but it was beyond useless, it was the correct size per the instructions but it was just a loose plastic sack on her foot with no shape or structure.
Thankfully, as far as we know she doesn't actually have CDRM, at least not at present - the vet has shown us how to test for this (tested her last Fri) and her reflexes are pretty immediate, so we're fairly sure it's the arthritis altering the way in which she carries and uses her leg.
