Kitten funny with food
Discussion
We got a kitten last week (5 months old) he has been good re food and litter tray. The last couple of days we have put food down he has eaten some of bowl 1/3rd to
1/2 then he starts clawing at the floor as if he is trying to cover it over... Like in litter tray... If we take it away and put it down half hour later he eats it... I thought initially he didn't like smell and trying to cover it over... But then why does he eat it to start with?
Whiskers wet food (till now) with a couple of biscuits mixed in and a dash of water.

He's probably trying to hide it so its still there when he wants to eat it later. Ours occasionally do this.
They have a bowl each, two compartment so wet food goes in one side & dry kibble in the other. Water in a cat fountain a short distance away. Lily has a pink dish & Louis has a blue one. If you want to see cat confusion just change the placement of the dishes!

Ok thanks,
I leave dry biscuits out for him and water.
I put a few biscuits in meals to give a bit of crunch (no reason but he seems to like it)
He seemed to be a bit constipated when we got him so to make sure he was getting enough moisture the vet recommended putting a little extra water in meal... His poo is starting to soften up.

We do the small amount of water in the wet food for Lily - advised by the vet after she had a couple of bouts of cystitis.
Also found that a cat fountain - flowing water - was better at getting them to drink than still water in a bowl. Louis likes drinking from the cold tap & lets you know when he wants a drink!
