Vaccinations

After a little advice, my 8 year old cat has been fully vaccinated up until now but am considering not vaccinating him from now on. He is virtually an indoor cat, he only ventures into the garden and cannot jump the fences so no risk he will go further. Up until recently, I had another cat but now there is no risk of him meeting other cats and I don't plan on bringing anymore cats into the house.

Should I continue to vaccinate him? He does have a heart murmor if that affects things.

I don't feel vaccinations are of any value anymore, I've had more problems caused by them than solved.

If you want to feel safer, titre test. This will show if there are any antibodies.

Look up Catherine O'Driscoll and various other places which will explain in great detail the issues caused by vaccinations in pets, not least injecting them annually.

All of my cats had the initial course of injections when they were kittens and that was it, they lived till 24,22,19 and 18 yrs.

Both of my cats were never vaccinated; Pepper passed away in January at 21; she was predominately an outdoor car until she started to get older, Jazzy is 14 and very much an outdoor cat and very much still alive.

He's low risk so probably not but will become an issue if you ever you needed a cattery (cat sitter would sort this) Can't guarantee he'd be risk free of picking up any of the conditions he's vacc against as he still goes out but as I said it'd be low.

Titre testing is one way to be sure. Vaccines are still vital for the majority and I don't agree with anyone who says they are not but there is always a compromise that can be met. I haven't vaccinated my cat this year (she's 10yrs old) but she has regular vet checks.

One thing that does occur is when pets aren't vaccinated they often aren't health checked by a vet for years. Annual health checks should be done.

He's booked in with the vet for next week to discuss this and for a check up, they suggested that some vaccinations were more important than others but that they'd discuss it next week.

So people who sell something tell you that you need to buy their product?

And I assume they either don't offer a titre test or anything cheaper?
