Help with Dog

I have an appointment booked with the vet later on today but wonder if there is anything I can do in the meantime:

My dog has been breaking wind quite a lot for the last few days but worryingly this morning now refuses to walk. He looks as though he is in pain in one if not both of his hind legs. No pain to the touch, but is clingy, shaking a little, making smells and won't walk

He is a four year old Yorkshire Terrier.

Any suggestions?

Dodgy tummy and a dislocated patella. Apparently the dislocation is common in Yorkies and the vet just snapped it back in. Ouch.

Keep an eye on weight, keep him lean. Don't want a ruptured cruciate if the patella can slip like that?!?

Luxating patellas are almost the norm in many small breeds and actually most don't need intervention unless become painful. They usually aren't and pop in and out without discomfort to the dog.

They rarely cause cruciate issues in little dogs tbh though obviously not impossible. Keeping weight down is a good idea all round and will reduce stress on the joint which will reduce symptoms of arthritis later in life.

Watch a Jack Russell run and you'll often see it lift a back leg up, that is usually a luxating patella.

Occasionally an op is done to deepen the patella groove but will depend on the need of the patient.
