Furbag doesn't like having bloods taken so I was recommended to give her Bonquat two hours before the appointment.

Now for the bit I didn't know at the time...

2ml bottle of Bonquat: £90. OK, we know prescriptions through vets are crazy money so I wasn't too surprised at that.

But... Dose: 0.3ml. The remaining 85% (= £76) will be probably be thrown away in six months.

Why isn't sold it in individual doses, or at least in 1 ml bottles for £45? It is just such a fantastic waste of money and product.

Because they can get you to pay £90 for a £14 dose because you want your pet to be comfortable simple exploitation hehe

We had a cat that needed a treatment for his eye that wasn't available for animals, the surgery would have it chill couriered from Moorfields. That, was fiscally interesting.

Interestingly the vet I have at the moment is always keen for me to book the next consultation before I've left the first. Not known that before. Maybe I'm being cynical but have they had training from their new corporate masters on revenue maximisation?

The corporate takeovers of almost all vets practices should have stopped IMHO as it's against the public interest, and more pets will be abandoned or untreated as a result.

I learned something new today.

Furbag has used up a sachet of Bisolvon and is still snuffly so I e-mailed the vet to ask if it would be appropriate to get another sachet. Later they texted to say it was ready for collection. Great!

On arrival I found that they'd put two sachets in the bag. Expecting each sachet to be about £50 I asked them to take one out - I'd buy it separately later if it was needed. To my surprise the bill showed the cost for one sachet was only £24.54. I commented that seemed quite cheap. Then they mentioned it included a prescription charge. I looked at the bill - 'Bisolvon Powder 5g: £24.54'. No mention of a prescription charge. 'How much is the prescription charge?' I asked. The chap didn't know; he went back to his screen and poked around for a bit. '£19' he said. 'Woah' says me, 'do you mean that the price of one sachet is only a fiver?' 'Yes'. 'Well in that case put the other one back in the bag'!

So every bill for meds includes £19, and it's not declared anywhere. It should at least be itemised on the bill.
