Red Kite?

Finally managed to get a few pics of a pair of birds ive been seeing around for a while now - been told they are Red Kites.

Excuse the bad picture quality, they've been heavily cropped and edited to try and get the colours to come out.

They're always hovering around the park in Old Windsor

Maybe live in the great park.

See a lot of them where my brother lives in Marlow (and motorway nearby) I think a dozen or more were released in the area a few years ago and they have done rather well.

There's at least three which hang around our farm in Tring. Stunning birds to watch.

There was a big scheme for the reintroduction of Red Kites run up at Stokenchurch, and the population has grown and spread from there.

Yep. Used to be the only area you could really see them in locally. Now they hover over my surburban garden all the time

They were very rare in central Wales until there was a massive conservation effort. There's a feeding centre here http://www.redkiteswales.co.uk/ which is surrounded by epic roads that Top Gear, Evo and the like use. Nowadays its more unusual not to see any !!!

The omes from South Oxon are spreading. Over the last year or so, I've seen one or two up north of Oxford now.

great timing - I took my camera to my parents' place in Marlow yesterday to try and catch some kites, but the little (big?) buggers weren't co-operating. That said, my aunt has several pairs on her land and next Monday, all being well, i'm off up to hers to watch her feed them in her back garden. Can't wait!

I can see a pair outside my office window right now. Beautiful birds - it's easy to forget that they nearly died out in this country when you see them every day.

I live in the Derwent Valley, I'm lucky enough to see them almost every time I walk the dog. I still stop and watch them if they're doing something interesting. They're huge when you see them on the ground.

We are lucky enough to have a pair nesting in one of our cedar trees. This is their third year with us, one chick the first year, two last year, we hope for three this year. The male is quite friendly and whistles at me from his perch in a nearby larch where he keeps an eye on the comings and goings about the place. They are quite spectacular and we feel very privileged to have them living with us.

They seem to be spreading along the motorway corridors in particular - they like riding the thermals form the tarmac. The South Oxfordshire colony has spread up along the M40 and down and across the M4... I've seen them over past Swindon recently.
