After watching Guardians of the Galaxy - one song struck me as having a great intro - but the actual song was pretty crap.

The Raspberries - Go All The Way

Any other suggestions?

I'm sure I'll get shot down for this, but Money For Nothing by Dire Straits. Not that it's not a fine tune of course, but nothing could live up to that intro IMHO....

That's a good shout actually. The intro is epic, the actual song is a bit, well, meh.

Panama by Van Halen

Great intro, then they ran out of ideas or tried to throw 3 ideas together and call it a song

Party Fears Two by the Associates. Great intro but the singer sounds like he's gone mad by about half way through.

IIRC the only reason it has a good intro was because John Peel played it at 45 instead of 33. those were the days...

Haha. I bought the single just for the intro alone.

Technically they are two seperate songs but theres no break and it was released on vinyl so it plays as one-

Future Legend which serves as the intro to Bowie's Diamond Dogs is amazing- a post apocalyptic ramble that really sets up some high expectations... When Diamond Dogs finally fires up it sounds like the theme to Only Fools and Horses by comparison:

This ain't rock and roll... This is Genocide!

Fortunately the rest of the album is ace!
