I had to check twice just to confirm that article was not from the Guardian. They are the food version of Harry Enfields I saw you coming. Still good luck to them, I'm sure the boho and hipster types will lap up their fayre. Yes I do remember Viz's modern parents, very funny along with the likes of Milly tant.

The breakfast menu features a platter of cured ham, cheese, home-made jam and yoghurt, free-range egg, sourdough bread and a cake for a tenner as well as a Danish speciality of a hot skillet with free-range eggs, potatoes, goat's cheese, watercress and sourdough (£8.50). Eggs are also available served with bacon, or avocado or salmon.

You can just imagine their grinning-through-gritted-teeth distaste if a builder went in there by mistake.

Surely the Modern Parents would have an all vegan menu?

What's rolleyes about any of that? Sounds good to me.

I'm really struggling to see the issue here.

What? Place opens that doesn't sell eggs chips and beans for breakfast and it's a bad thing?

Looks awful. Would much prefer some over cooked catering pack baked beans on a slice of stale burnt toast.

£2.50 for a fecking cupcake....Not a chance (but will happily consider £2.50 on a Latte from your chosen 'designer' coffee outlet. I have clearly been brainwashed by marketing.

45 covers and a manager and a chef? She might be planning to make delicious wholesome ethical meals but the one thing she won't be making is any money.

I think it's good.

A non-generic place to eat something a little different can't be bad surely? Much rather go in there and have something a bit wacky than another McDonald's etc...

Good luck to them.

Those bits sound delicious and pretty reasonably priced. I'd head there if I was in York. Not everyday can be a £1.50 bacon roll and a polystyrene cup of instant coffee day. Some days it's nice to have something a bit nicer.
