We and many people we know have sold a huge amount on Facebook market place and never had any issue.

Having said that, it's only in the local only groups.

Quick, easy and free.

But as with anything, experiences will vary person to person!

Sold some furniture and baby stuff on there (generally for peanuts), shifted very quickly and pleasant selling experiences overall, certainly better than Gumtree. I think having a name and a picture reduces the number of messages from idiots.

Was just contemplating trying to shift a few items on there as it seems I'll get similar money to eBay but without them taking their 10%. Think I'll probably give it a go, if it doesn't pan out I can always go back to eBay.

I had my Elise up for sale on there, had some guy proceed to slag my car off and tell me how much his rx7 would run rings round it because I turned down his offer of 9k

I find with FB marketplace, the crapper the thing you're selling, the better. We've shifted all sorts of stuff, and it's always the "random assortment of knackered rusty garden tools and broken flower pots" type thing that has someone shoving a tenner in your hand within the hour. As anything more than cheap house clearance or avoiding a trip to the tip it's just a pain in the arse.

Is it possible to use Facebook Marketplace from a PC or do you need to use a smartphone?
I can't get anywhere in my attempts to put on an ad but can 'see' listings from others. Can't get to the detailed descriptions either.

Yes very easy
Log into your facebook account on your PC/Laptop
Click the home tab
Look on your left hand column for Marketplace - click on it
Click on the blue "sell something" box
Follow instructions deciding what it is - tere are 3 main categories - Property, Vehicles and items for sale
Follow instructions as they appear on screen

Yep, this irks me. That said, I have sold a fair bit of stuff over the past 12 months or so on FB marketplace and on the whole have had a pretty good experience. In fact, I sold something today! Saves paying Ebay and Paypal fees, too!

You do get a lot of time wasters but things do sell

Happens so many times, I do think there is a big section of the population who have nothing better/else to do than browse Facebook and ask pointless questions about items they have no intention of buying.


The other thing I find is that there's always someone who simply ignores the price you ask for and offers a swap for something. I've lost count of the number of times I've been offered an xbox in exchange for whatever item I've advertised. I bet if I stuck an advert for an xbox on there someone would offer me a bloody xbox in part exchange

The "is this still available?" messages are usually sent in error. I've had a few people message me "yes" when I wasn't aware i'd asked them the question in the first place.

Facebook is free, easy to post and typically get quick sales. The best thing about it is how ebay are losing business to them so have started to offer promotions with £1 final value fees - their 10% fees are obscene in my opinion so it's nice the greedy bds are feeling the pinch.

When moving house I put stuff on there for free to avoid it going to the tip, trying to do my bit to recycle, etc.

One person asked if I was open to offers on an item that was listed as free.
