Forget trying to buy your way into being successful (cars, clothes, stuff in general) and just save as much as you can to buy my own place. None of that crap made a hot of difference to my prospects but did saddle me with a lot of debt £40k in 5 years that took me until I was 30 to pay off. Over a decade wasted and enough time for the option of buying my own place to essentially become unreachable.

My outlook on jobs and careers as a whole has changed massively in the last few years. Knowing and seeing what I know now, I d have pushed myself to start a career in doing something practical/working with my hands- whether that be learning a trade or joining the military, learning actual real skills and none of the corporate pen pushing BS.

When I was at school (which wasn t a million a years ago), we were all pushed to go to Uni, even if it meant it was a bad fit. At the time, I didn t realise it was a bad fit for me and I don t think my parents really did either. Teachers didn t really guide us based on our skills either IMO. Back then everyone seemed to have the impression that trades and military was for the dumb ones and the only way to succeed was to go to Uni and get an office job.

I lost my safe office job at the end of last year and the job market has completely changed. And I was never really good at that type of stuff, sitting at a computer or writing essays etc. It’s challenging times now.
