Baby Boomers: 1946 - 1964
Generation X: 1965 - 1979
Generation Y: 1980 - 1994 (aka Snowflake).
Generation Z: 1995 - 2009
Generation Alpha: 2010 - 2024
Generation Beta: 2025 - 2039

Plus:
Xennials: 1977 - 1983.
( X / Y)

Millenials: 1981 - 1996.... Because they became ADULTS in the Millennium.
( Y / Z, Just to mess up the natural order of things)

NB: Going to put a bet on...Generation Theta: 2040 - 2054.
(But predict, anybody born in 2050 are bound to get a new 'special' title).

Researched Millenial... 1981 - 1996
(So a mixture of Y & Z (Zee).

Millennial seems to confuse a lot of people.

My kids are Gen Z but their Uncle - my brother-in-law - will sometimes deride Millennials.

Meaning them.

But it is he himself who is a Millennial.

(Life used to be so simple).

Glad that my kids are just plain Gen Z (Zee).

I would imagine he thinks Millennials means 'born at the turn of Millennium', rather than 'became an adult around the turn of the Millennium'. I think that's a common misunderstanding.

What years are the snowflake generation?
In modern times, however, the snowflake generation according to Collins dictionary of 2016 (actually one of the words of the year no less) defined the term as people who became adults in the 2010s born from 1980 to 1994. They were viewed as less resilient and more prone to take offence than previous generations.

I think some epidemiology researchers might take issue with the rather rigid dates for your generation definitions. I think this chart from 2019 shows the more accepted years of birth up to Gen Z:



However, there is currently no consensus on when Gen Z finishes and Gen Alpha starts and/or ends. Multiple years of birth have been proposed and used for this generation by different researchers and epidemiologists. Although McCrindle has used 2010-2024, others have used 2011, 2012 and 2013 as the start year, and up to 2029 has been suggested as the final year of the generational cohort.

However, one thing is certain in our house. With our elder two being very firmly in Gen Z territory, having been born in 1998 and 2000, our youngest, born in 2011, vehemently rejects the idea of being in Gen Alpha and as far as she's concerned, she's also definitely in Gen Z. Anyone challenging this view in her presence risks life and limb...

ETA pre-1945 (more specifically 1928-45) is the Silent Generation, not the Builders. Never heard of it referred to as that.

I didn't realise that my son fell into the Snowflake category.
It now makes sense that he said he was 'disgusted' when he saw the statue "Liverpool Resurgent" (aka Dickie Lewis to the locals)

In my near 50 years on this rock I personally think most people fall into either Pre 1955, 1955-1975, 1975-1995, 1995-2015.
People within those groups generally have similar outlooks, opinions and lifestyles.

Now, is that because of the phase of life they are in, or the time which they were born.... that is the question.
Or both?
