It’s still going and she’s spent multiples more on baubles etc. for several years she’d visit the Xmas shop in York out of season. It really is a spectacle and will likely end up being a family heirloom.

Some people swear by the expensive artificial trees. Many are very expensive indeed. Multiples of this £360 job. I’m sure some offer great returns. I wouldn’t say no if it was others’ money.
Ours are (we have two, show offs!) at least 20 years old and would have given change from a tenner from Homebase. They’ve survived kids and pets and despite leaving a smattering of green plastic behind each January still look like new. To me, anyway. No ceremony, shoved in an old box and stored in the loft each time.

We bought a “posh” artificial tree in the sales in 1997 for £115.
Still looks great now. We collect unusual baubles wherever we go (we picked up an airship at the zepellin museum in Frierichshafen this summer) so it does look spectacular.
As it happens we are just looking (as they’re cheap right now) at a pair of (smaller) artificial trees as we are moving in October to a double fronted farmhouse so we want one for each big front window.

It’s unfortunate but it’s what the general public wants, just the same as heavy SUV cars to take the kids to school and paying to pick up pumpkins from a muddy field to get a photo for ‘the gram.’
If it didn’t make commercial sense they wouldn’t do it.

It's far too early in the year to start this debate but for the love of god just buy a real bloody tree each year! £30-£40 a year for a 6 footer that actually looks like a real tree and the family memories of standing in the freezing cold/pissing rain arguing about which is the right tree are priceless!
