Not the most 'PH' of threads I grant you, but I thought I'd see what suggestions come my way...
The OH is starting to worry that our weddig doesn't have enough in the way of individual touches about it, so in a bid for inspiration I thought I'd see what the gathered masses on here done to make their day more personal.
At the moment we have things like the music we're using in the ceremony room will be a mix of music from our favorite movies. We didn't want music with lyrics, and have no connection with classical music, so the John Williams back catalogue is going to be well represented as people arrive. Other things like the table numbers are based on my fave sportsmen and women (red 5 will be one of the numbers!!) and we're not having a tradition cake, but a collection of our favorite puddings.
So, does anybody have anything they would like to share about how they made their wedding special, I'm not looking to copy it, but draw inspiration.

Remind her that the only individuals that matter are you and her. The rest of the stuff is just padding and won't count for a bean a week after the wedding.Oh, and get a pre-nup.
I had a call last night from a couple who, as the call was ending they told me; BTW, we are getting married on Thursday. The two of them and 2 witnesses, end of. They are travelling to a pretty registry office up north to make the occasion pleasant and memorable, nice lunch afterwards then back home.
It made such a change that people were not all hung up on 'making the day their own' and stressing about it. They are a well off couple and just wanted a few special moments to themselves.
Horses for courses but in making the day 'perfect and different' I think sometimes, (and I don't know anything about the OP so will exclude him/her; didn't say it wasn't a civil ceremony) people waste blood sweat and tears to keep up with the frinds and do what the familty want.
Anyway, best wishes with the ceremony and do things because you want to, not because they look good to her mates and others will find it cute/romantic/extravagent. As my OH says, it costs about £40 and 15 minutes to get married, anything else is window dressing.

finally a couple of sensible posts! Good to see the keyboards warriors are tailing off!It made such a change that people were not all hung up on 'making the day their own' and stressing about it. They are a well off couple and just wanted a few special moments to themselves.

To a point I agree with you. As I said in another post originally we were going to get married in Big Sur in California as it's a special place for the 2 of us. We'd planned to fly out with only our parent, best friends and brothers and keep it small. However the place we wanted isn't licensed for weddings and everything else we found was missing something. I've also tried to keep the engagement as short as possible because if you give yourself 2 years to plan it will take 2 years.
Part of the reason I posted I guess was because I'm sick of the wedding industry, which try and rip you off at ever turn. We're sorting out the flowers next week and if you don't say it's for a wedding it's half the cost. Same with wedding cakes, £250 for a fruit cake?! f
k off!! Go to the Waitrose website and look at a White icing cake and a wedding cake, same cake, twice the price. So we're going to our favorite cake shop in London and getting a range of cakes for half the price, and they're much better cakes! We've tried to do a lot ourselves and what I was looking for when I made the original post was ideas as to what others have done, not to try and keep up with anybody. My wedding will be only the 2nd I've ever been to, so in the same way people ask for advice on stuff they don't know about, I'm doing the same. I've not got a clue what happens on the day, as far as I'm concerned the venue is sorted, honeymoon booked, registrar will be there and the main sentiment of bringing the 2 familes together and our commitment is not going to change if we have something 'individual or cute'. So In my eyes it's job done.
Hope this makes sense, it's tricky tapping away on the phone whilst on the train.
Oh, as for the get married for £40 comment, our local registrar charges £471 for 20 minutes work!!
You sure its nearly £500? Is that for a registrar going to a venue of your choice?
Everywhere I've looked is about £40 (plus £30 each for registering your intentions)
2 witnesses and 15 mins is all that is needed. I just don't get why people want to do the massive wedding, 10's of thousands of pounds and military organisation. You only have to look on the wedding chat rooms to see the numerous posts relating to "ruined" weddings as the best man didn't video it properly, the bride and groom weren't served dinner first- all sorts of rubbish like that.
It's just madness.
But hey, if its what she wants, its what she'll have to have or you'll always be the big bad husband who refused to let her have it.

Our wedding was very small and intimate (50 guests total), and although it was expensive, the total budget was tiny compared to what some of my friends have spent. We managed to personalise things slightly (and saved money somewhat) by getting involved with the table dressings - we made personalised placeholders for everone in the form of a tealight, which doubled as the "favour" for the wedding - I'm sure some keyboard warriors will claim it was naff, but I know that those same said tealights are on shelves and mantepieces in at least 10 couples' homes, which is nice, as it shows that the guests liked it too.
I sorted the flowers, and agreed a display with our florist, rather than picking a design off the shelf. We avoided he traditional "crap on a plate plus some forlorn vol-au-vant" fayre at god knows how much per head, by having Bacon sarnies in lieu of the evening buffet (although we did do full sit down for the wedding breakfast). The bacon sarnies were a huge hit, and everyone thought it was very "us", which was also nice.
Hope you both have a great day, and a fantastic marriage.

This is an individual touch, but like serving pies or fish and chips (instead of a proper three course meal) at other weddings I've attended, I think it's a bit naff. It's your choice, of course. So based on that, why not, since you mentioned the favourite films idea, ask guests to turn up dressed as various characters. You could even have your first dance as something like in Dirty Dancing at the end (assuming she isn't a big lass).

yep, that's what the rate is in Windsor and Maidenhead, daylight robbery if you ask me...Everywhere I've looked is about £40 (plus £30 each for registering your intentions)

As for being the big bad husband, that's a million miles from the truth, if anything I'm the one who pushed for the bigger do after finding the venue.
