So the missus is wanting a tattoo and has decided on a particular line from a song that has some meaning for her and me. She wants the text to be in Arabic as it looks prettier.

It translates fairly well into Arabic on Google Translate but i wanted to check with someone who can 100% confirm it looks and reads correctly before it's permanently etched onto her body?

مثل اثنين من الذرات في جزيء مجتمعة لا ينفصم

Can anyone help out?

All I can say from in-depth experience (ran a PR firm in Dubai for years) is that translating English to Arabic is full of pitfalls. The saying goes that if you I give a passage of text to ten Arabs to translate, you'll get ten different versions. The language isn't like English, it's more nuanced and sentences have 'meaning' rather than words being exact. Part of the reason why the Koran can be abused, it can be quite ambiguous at times.

If your missus really wants it done, then get multiple translations of the sentence and whittle it down to common denominators then get your local Imam to ensure you'll not get a fatwa.

It has happened.

That reads:

I'm a knob who thinks plagiarising a line from a song And getting it tattooed across my arse in Arabic will give me some semblance of being cool.

Sounds perfect!

Why would you put something you cant read on you? I'd be hesitant wearing a t-shirt with a language I cant read, never mind getting a tat with it. ANd I like Tats

I'm not sure having something tattoo'd which you cannot understand yourself is the best idea ever.

Not wishing to be rude but, judging by the translation, if you fk that one up the anti-terrorism police might think you've etched a bomb-making instruction kit on your missus.

I have an arabic tattoo, they are not words like English but a collection of sounds and often each different arabic speaker interprets it differently. To make sure mine was correct I took what I wanted to a mosque a friend works at, they were very helpful in making sure it was correct.

If you use google for the same words it comes back with a load of crap.

you could post this in the council thread, tbh, its where such a question belongs and where any viewers of said finished article will deem it to be so.

you could always do the phrase in gothic script and keep it in English, for extra classiness. smile
