Hello. I have not posted in the Lounge before but have been sent here from the Barge thread.

I came across this fine picture a couple of years ago. A severe case of OCD means I just cannot bear not knowing where it was taken. To whoever identifies it, I will give great thanks before moving onto some other pointless obsessive quest. You will also have the knowledge that I will waste countless hours planning a road trip to the place in question which somehow will never be embarked upon.

It is that kind of structure but the Ludendorff Bridge (at Remagen) collapsed in '45 and wasn't rebuilt.

The landscape looks like Iceland to me. Large, flat, flood plain and dark, young mountains.

Has that bridge got a slight incline to one side about it?

I'd think its one of the old rail bridges over the Oder from Poland to Germany (taken maybe shortly after the Wall fell?) which had been recovered for motorised traffic..... Doubt however that it's still open for such traffic (if it ever was). Defo a rail bridge!

Most photos of that bridge show a 2 or 4-laner, this is a single lane.... perhaps it's been rebuilt?

The picture was taken before early-1983.

Now I really want to know! Thanks for all suggestions so far.

My uncle took a more or less identical photo to that with his Jag. It's actually quite a well known place, surprised you've not managed to find where it is

I was thinking the same however given the age of the car and photo, (I'm guessing late 80's early 90's) It would have been difficult for a German to enter Poland at the time as it was communist back then. Also Kujawskie Pomorskie is really very flat with no hills to speak of (Wife is from that area) Theres another similar Bridge Between Gdansk and Bydgoscz on the old road which was a single lane with a wooden platform but it was 2006 when i drove over it and have no idea where it was.

Maybe it is somewhere in the former DDR as it certainly looks like a communist design.

It was taken before early-1983, probably during 1982.

I wondered whether it might not be in America somewhere.

Looking at the photo's again and comparing, It looks to be an old railway bridge given the chequer plate (walkways?) along the sides having been repurposed as a road bridge, I'm now thinking Austria given the hilly background. Maybe a recently closed at the time bridge that Mr German decided to drive over post closure,

I think you can rule out Poland as if a Railway bridge they would still be using it and will continue to until it collapses smile

Me too, it is very well known. A lot of the car companies used it in the 70's and 80's. It's even been in a few films.

Apparently this is the largest bridge database in the world: https://www.bridgebase.com/
Hope this helps.
