Brake - things you use to slow down/stop
Breaks - the act of rendering something non functional

Specific - something clearly identified or defined
Pacific - an ocean

Misuse of both make my teeth itch (amongst many others)

Border - the perimeter or edge. e.g. to delineate between two countries
Boarder - someone who rents a room in your house, or your child when you send him away to a private school

Pour - transfer liquid from one vessel to another

One I’ve seen cropping up more often these days is were/where.

Surely this is a failing of basic early years education. Shocking.

Less
Use "less" when you are talking about a quantity or amount that is not easily counted. For example, "less sugar," "less time," or "less effort".

Fewer
Use "fewer" when you can count the individual items. For example, "fewer cars," "fewer people," or "fewer options".
