I miss the heady days of the Royal Ag show at what was once the home of Ag….

Be a good day out that I think.

We have a yearly show just like that (minus the celebs) near town as there's an agricultural university nearby, and loads of farms..

It's a cracking day out, to be fair

Did anyone go? Any good?

Social media reports suggest sky high entrance ticket prices, low attendance and expensive stands.

The other half and myself were planning to go, but finances have been a little tight this year and elected to go to the Rutland County show instead for a 3rd of the price. We still intend to go to FarmFest at some point, possibly next year, but when we're in a position to do all 3 days as we felt it looked like the kind of thing where its too big to just go for one day (much like the sadly now dead Silverstone Festival). I'd be interested to see how it went though. Hope it was as good as it looked.

None of them are saying why they didn't make a bean.

Maybe it was for charging 90 quid for a dollop of cheese or something.

A common complaint was that these traders were dog/pet focused and the very fact that Farmfest wasn't a pet themed event was their reason for being there.

However, the organisers added another event they own called Dogfest to the weekend and as a result their stands were subsequently placed in a separate area at the back with no signage pointing visitors to it resulting in poor footfall.

Essentially, when they signed up it was on the basis their stand would be within the core part of Farmfest only for it to be marginalised to the back.

I'm not anti clarkson and crew at all, I enjoy a lot of the media they have done. I also enjoy Clarksons farm. But I'll never understand the absolute hysteria around the side businesses he has raised, why people queue down the road to visit the pub and farm shop I'll never understand, because you would get a better experience at a better price at a non Clarkson related business. Are people really that star struck? I don't get it.

And this show really shows the grift at its best. There are good agricultural shows up and down the country, arguably this show rather than help them has possibly hindered them, I appreciate it's supposed to water down farming to moron level so people outside of the countryside appreciate it, but still. These celebrity driven, ego shows are a blight on all events, it's just grasping and nothing more. Who do think cares more about if you enjoy yourself and want to come back next year? A group of volunteers trying to push their chosen subject who are constantly fighting to fund it, or a multi millionaire just looking to exploit their name (rightly so) for every last penny.

The sooner that big expensive shoes die off the better. I'm sick of them wiping out smaller better shows and every single event having the same market traders selling the same st at every show. Doesn't matter whether it's a shooting show, car show, agricultural show, probably even cooking and computer shows if they exist, the git selling the magical super glue (yes I did get conned and yes I am still bitter) and the bloody silicone shoe shiners offering to ruin your shoes for free are always there.

And breathe.

I’m not qualified to comment on pretty much all of that but, yes, Celebrity is incredibly powerful. The human condition, innit?

I don’t get it at all, and am frequently astonished, but have to acknowledge it.

I’d not heard of the event prior to opening this thread. Hopefully it wasn’t all tears at bedtime.

I drove out, more for the drive than anything, to Clarksons pub thinking that on a random Thursday I'd pop in, have a pint and maybe a snack.

I arrived to find the car park full and closed with people directing the ton of cars to a field to park in.

You had to queue just to get into the pub, one in for one out, and it was rammed.

I walked around the gardens where there were queues for everything.

I got back in my car and carried on with a lovely drive before heading back to London.

Passing many pubs that were empty in the same area.

Why not stop at one of those then?

Indeed. £60 to get in does seem rather excessive though.

I’m not sure this trader has judged the audience very well. It’s rather like a grand piano seller bemoaning the fact that no one at popular music event Glastonbury was in the market for a Steinway.

I agree, I like his shows and the cast but I am mystified by the number of people at work wanting to drive for over three hours to get a pub lunch and buy some beer from a TV personality.

We ate up the road in the garden of The Inn For All Seasons. Jolly nice too.
