We know a couple where the bloke is essentially a 1920s husband

The dinner had to be on the table
Nothings ever right
Makes work for the mrs on purpose

Will hold a grudge for days if he is accidentally given a spoon instead of a fork

In their 60s and the chap doesn’t ever lift a finger, buy a gift or do anything nice ever

What’s it all about?

I’m sure PH has some interesting stories

He sounds a pathetic and spoilt little prick to me. Poor woman saddled with him.

Sounds like an abusive, toxic waste of oxygen to me.

Presumably she needs permission to drive, go out, see friends and breathe?

Not sure I'd overthink that one.

At best some people are just aholes.

At worst if that's what you know goes on what goes on that you don't know about.

For all we know, she might have demanded that when they first started dating. People are weird.

My own contribution - I grew up in darkest farming country. One old goat nearby used to chain his wife to the rayburn before he went out.

Mid Devon.

The same guy would also eagerly await magic mushroom season and then you'd often see the resulting effects in his tractor driving.

It wasn't a very sophisticated place in the 1970s.

At the cattle auctions half of the farmers would hand over their chequebooks for the auctioneer to fill in because they couldn't read or write.

My dad asked one fella what his memories of WW2 were - 'Good harvests'.

I wonder how many people on here read this, whilst waiting for their current wife to bring them their slippers, and were confused when they found nothing odd in the post?

Guess farmers were the same everywhere back in the day lol.

In Kerry there was a copper known as boots, his speciality was nicking farmers for driving tractors in wellies.

Most of them didn't have wives to chain up though.

Yes I read it and thought for a moment it was someone who knew me and was jealous.
Can't understand what on earth made the OP post such an ordinary set up.

That’s not a statement, it’s a question.

One of my neighbours is like this. She started off with a part time job in a nursery being run ragged by the little beggars. But husband decided that she didn't do enough hours and ordered her to get another part time job as well as all the housework. He decided she should walk to work for exercise rather than use her car. I sometimes see her cleaning the cars whilst he is very much a sit in front of the fire reading a newspaper type of guy.
