I’ve had enough of politicians starting every reply with ‘well, look . .’
Can their media coaches please think of a new filler as I find this one rather irritating.
Huge first world problem for me.
Can anyone recommend a new filler ?

Let me be clear - I don't think they will change any time soon.

Its absolutely rife across all forms of media/presenters, including those 'specialist' correspondents the news channels bring in for input but also football pundits. Its almost become a 'fashionable' phrase but its actually highly frustrating.

I love that one, and then they are anything but 'clear'.

"But first, let me just say this.....". Like most people, sick of politics. Great news on freezing the 5p subsidy on fuel duty. What about the millions of additional fuel duty and vat pouring in be because of the increased oil cost!

You joined PH 15 years ago and waited all that time to write, "But first..."

The one that really nips my knitting is " lessons will be learned " this is the excuse for monumental fk-ups so nobody gets fired, or investigated by police, or going to jail because you killed people during Covid.

The SNP in Scotland use this regularly as they are masters of the monumental fk-up.

"Let me be absolutely clear with you by giving you an answer to a question that's completely different to the one that you asked. Yes I absolutely think that the children are our future. We should teach them well and let them lead the way. And we shouldn't kick the elderly. That's my position and that of the Labour party, unlike the Tories who have continually refused to accept this"

Whenever a sales person starts a sentence with ‘obviously’ I feel obliged to ask them what is obvious in what they are saying.

Although I'm not a fan, I did smile at JD Vance's comment in his press conference yesterday when one of the reporters asked him two questions. It was along the lines of:

I can only answer one question from each of you. Actually - I'm a politician, so I might not even answer the question you asked.

Outside of cricket, and maybe in cricket, Aussie is "Yeah nah" or "Nah yeah" depending on whether they agree with you or not.
