A decent quality socket set - Halfords Advanced has served me well

A decent trolley jack

Some robust axle stands

A quality breaker bar

A brake piston rewind tool for doing discs and pads

Brake/clutch cleaner for making the above job much cleaner

Decent code scanner, high lift jack and some sort of breaker bar. Everything else can be done with cable ties

You've not been fixing cars long enough if you can fit the left over nuts and bolts in a jam jar

Mines over 20 years old now I think. Covers atleast 90% of bases (bloody VW and their triple square bolts).

Has saved me thousands, if not 10's of thousands and on the rare occasion something breaks I walk into Halfords put it on the counter and they get me a new one.
