Hello,

I'm trying to decide between the two of these. What are your thoughts. Both are about £7,000 with 70,000 miles on them. Audi is 2004 (B6) and the Honda is 2005. The Honda is the Executive with sat nav, leather etc, the Audi is the Sport with the little body kit and 17" wheels but cloth interior and standard CD, no sat nav.

I'm thinking the Honda is the better bet, more modern engine and a better spec, but I prefer the look of the Audi and I've had Audi's before. Any thoughts? Both have the same performance and MPG figures (almost exactly!), both insurance group 12 and tax band G so should cost about the same to run.

Any other ideas maybe? I tested a Volvo V50 last night and didn't get on with it at all. Pedals were tiny and far to close to each other, and there was no foot rest for the left leg. Almost undriveable for me and my big feet!

Thanks,

Dan

Accord - I found the A4 far too small and could never get comfy when driving, but it did have a sport feel to it. Ultimately I am not an Audi fan however and think they are overpriced for what you actually get.

Yes ok the Audi looks better, but the accords engine is excellent and the reliability is allegedly up there with the best.

If its got higher spec over the audi then thats a bonus.

I've had a 2003 A4 B6 petrol saloon for just over a year now. With all the things that have had to be replaced on it(bought at 78k miles FSH) in the last year I wish I'd have bought a Japanese car.

Yes, it's a nice looking car and drives well, but things have failed on it which I just know would not on a Japanese built car.

Go with the Accord !

Thanks. I am tempted to go with the Honda. Luckily the Honda is local so I think I'll go for a test drive at the weekend if I get a chance.

I've had an '04 1.9 TDI Avant for 4 years. 15k pa and it has never missed a beat, very economical, great all round, can't fault it at all. Will hold its value too

The honda's load bay is maaaaaaaaaasive !

Having driven both (albeit in saloon form) I didnt find much difference between the two. The Honda has the better engine, more refined, better spread of power across the rev range.

you might see better mpg from the Audi tho ?

The Accord definitely! Is the tailgate on the Saloon electric as well?

According to Autotrader...

Honda:

Fuel consumption (urban) 37.7 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 58.9 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 48.7 mpg
0 - 62 mph 10.4 seconds
Top speed 124 mph
Cylinders 4
Valves 16 v
Engine power 140 bhp
Engine torque 251 lbs/ft

Audi:

Fuel consumption (urban) 36.7 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 58.9 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 48.7 mpg
0 - 62 mph 10.2 seconds
Top speed 127 mph
Cylinders 4
Valves 8 v
Engine power 130 bhp
Engine torque 210 lbs/ft

Amazing how similar they are but I think the Honda has the Audi beaten on torque.

Oh right. I am a fan of having my cars mapped. Haven't got time to trawl through the forum so any ideas on hp/torque figures and price?

190BHP for £200 I think.

Have to be careful because it can destroy a weak clutch but they're £580 fixed price from Honda.

Executive trim is rather nice, you're getting a lot more toys for your money.

Tricky choice. Both excellent cars.
The A4 is deceptively small inside; not quite sure where they put the space.
Both great on a long haul.
Do you have both brands of dealer or Indy near you? Are they well rated?

I'd go for the Honda I think for the engine.

The Audi is being sold through a trader, although they don't have a website and it looks like a one man band sort of thing, the Honda is local and being sold privately.

I have Brockenhurst Honda in the New Forest about 4 miles away which will be really handy. Nearest Audi dealer is Poole or Southampton, probably 12-15 miles away which isn't so handy!

Nice one. I'll have to factor in the price of a clutch then as I will be towing my boat as well so it may not last too long if they're a weak point.

Just had a quick look on the internet and I've found a lovely 2.2 CTDI Exec Saloon with 55k on approved used Honda for £6999 so I owe you thanks as I've been looking for ages for a good one and this has popped up literally a mile away from me smile
