No respect for my property even when I`m sitting in it!
Discussion
Pulled into Gretna services on the M74 last night on the way up to the inlaws. Its dark, the car parks about 1/3 full and the world is my oyster in terms of choice of spaces. So I find a nice parking space next to the last diasbled bay. The disabled bay on the drivers side gave about 2m of space and then I had an empty parking space on the passenger side.
I relax and start tucking into some food when some inbred family in a newish black corsa pulls into the space next to me, well when I say that I actually mean 75% of the car was in the space next to me and 25% was still in the bay opposite it. They are also parked at an angle, the car is no more than 8 inches from mine and the passenger side front door is directly lined up with my wing mirror making it impossible for them to open the door and get out.
My "f
kwit" sense is tingling as this time and I`m sitting with my finger on the start button poised to move the car but before I can do anything the rear passenger door it opened by one of the little skip rats in the back and as he tries to slide out through the tiniest of space the inevitable happens and the door makes contact with my wing.
I get out of the car to inspect for damage and politley ask "why there was any need to park so close?", I get no response and the stupid bint sitting in the front passenger seat then also tries to get out even though my wing mirror is about 4 inches from her door and again contact it made. I cant believe what I`m seeing here, I now loose it a bit and ask "are you completley f
king retarded or what?". Still I get no response not even an apology but something that half man half cabbage climbs back into the drivers seat. "Great" I think, at least there moving to one of the 5 empty spaces which are in row now avaiable opposite but no...............they move the car 6 inches forward and fat cow squeezes out of the passegner door and they walk off without saying a work.
I`m now speechless and struggling to control my incredulous rage at what has just happened. I paid alot of money for my car yet they seemed not even to have the most basic of respect for my property or the common sense to park somewhere that would allow fatty to get out easily. I hate to think what would have happened if I had been inside the services as they pulled up. So is this a one off or should I give up now and resign myself to the fact that my mint condition car is going to get damaged by someone who doesnt give a f
k at some point?
Rant over, thanks for listening, feel much better

Parking and general car park etiquette really should be on the driving test IMO. Being able to use your mirrors, gauge width properly before slamming the car in and straightening up, reversing into a space, driving the right way round the one-way system and making sure you have enough room to open the doors are things I would want people to know how to do before being handed a licence.

You should have let there tyre down, it would have made you smile leaving the car park.
Chances are they wouldn't have noticed until they were pirouetting down the motorway into some poor sap.
The last time I raised the issue of mongs parking next to me when there were plenty of other spaces available allowing easy exit of their car I was told by a few true blood Pistonheaders they do it because;
a) Parking next to a nice car means their's won't be broken into,
b) The nice car owner won't swing their door into their car,
c) They like to p*ss off the owners of nice cars.
Seems ridiculous to me, but that's the mentailty of many people these days, including those who love cars, apparently.

Exactly, I did think about it for a second but then I thought these people were so stupid they may not have noticed and a blowout on the motorway may have been the resultiva cosworth said:
You parked in the closest space to services ,just like the family of tards
should have parked in middle of carpark ,thats not any excuse for their total
direspect of your car though
I have to admit I did park in a "medium risk" space but my major mistake was thinking because I was not leaving the car it would be OK lol should have parked in middle of carpark ,thats not any excuse for their total

It's very rare anyone with a 'nice' car parks next to me
Just because it still looks fairly tatty I suppose. I tend to park fairly far away/top floor etc if it can be helped but if not I must confess to avoiding parking next to Zafiras and the like. That asides I'm not too bothered really.

B is a perfectly good reason for parking next to a decent car and it's the system I operate on if there are no spaces with loads of room around them. I'd like to think that before getting irrate about it a fellow PHer might notice my sticker and let me off.a) Parking next to a nice car means their's won't be broken into,

A doesn't make any sense as my car's probably easier to break into than something more modern/expensive.
C is a dick move.
Had something simular the a while back. went to a train station to pick a mate up in the tuscan. I parked up and some doosh parks his car around 3" from my drivers side of the car. He gets out and walks off! For all I know he could be going to London for the weekend and has just stopped me from actually getting into my car.
Thankfully he was a reasonable chap and appologised when I pointed this out to him and he moved his car over to a reasonable gap.

This is why I usually park next to the 997 Turbo at work

If I have the option of parking next to a regular car or something expensive/well looked after I always go with the latter with the idea being they care about their car too so far less likely to ding mine.
You have to remember though a lot of ppl just can't park inside the lines if theres nothing around to judge where they are relative to the space. Although in this instance it seems they couldn't even manage it then
