Hi,

I thought I would ask the PH collective their thoughts. My Mrs has, in inspired fashion, booked an awesome hotel in N Wales v near the Evo triangle over the royal wedding weekend. So we get to take advantage of it being a brand spanking new Bank Holiday but at the same time the hotels haven't quite cottoned on yet. Nice.

So, as its near the Evo triangle and I am in the ClassicCarClub in Old St I thought I would take one of their cars for the weekend.

I have the choice of many:

http://www.classiccarclub.co.uk/modern_sports.asp

My shortlist:

Lotus Elan + 2
Porsche 911 (77)
Porsche 911 Turbo (930)
Maserati 3200

I like alot of others but I think the Elan will do the Evo triangle justice. Shouldn’t be too painful getting there either. Bit noisy perhaps but who cares!

Advice appreciated..

Like your style.

ETA - I think I'd go for the Turbo.

Whilst the elan would be great if you could guarantee that the roads will be empty (they might be - do the welsh care about royal weddings?), I'd want something with a bit of poke for overtaking, as getting stuck behind tourist/holidaymakers for any length of time will ruin the run(s).

Ok, well they say that the Turbo is a bit iffy at the moment so maybe go for something else. I have the 3200 on standby (excellent service from the club!) with 380bhp, so I might swap to that. I just thought that those Welsh roads with an Elan would be awesome, but I didn't think about dawdlers... hmm.

As I have it on stand by its going to be ready for me so I guess that I can swap to it should I want. Its a bit chalk and cheese but I think thats a good thing for a back up to be totally different!

+2 - a Lotus around North Wales is a total joy. Girlfriend's parents live locally and it's great fun running about round there with the roof off. Enjoy!

I'd agree with taking whatever has the most overtaking thump, unless you want to do multiple laps hoping dawdlers filter off that is. Personally, I'd just take the best overtaker of the group and get past them whenever they held me up.

Ok, so its the Maser 3200 for any time, or the Elan + 2 if I can be bothered to get up early and do it when its deserted? ;P
