How much do mechanics get paid???
Discussion
Can anybody advise on the standard starting wage for a mechanic at an independent garage. Not a manager with lots of experience but more a lower level mechanic who does the smaller jobs in the garage such as servicing the cars and fitting brake pads and discs, changing brake fluid, etc.
I have a friend whose company have quite a few company fleet cars so instead of paying an independent garage, they were considering hiring a fulltime member of staff to do all the little jobs alongside company work.

If this is going to be a mobile mechanic working out of a van full of tools then I can't see it as being a worthwhile exercise. If it's going to include setting up a suitable workshop complete with ramp, tyre changing facilities etc then I can't see it being financially worthwhile.
Depends on the size of fleet and how busy you can keep the Guy. A good idea if the Maths work. If he's quiet in the workshop he can always valet the fleet & do odd jobs around the premises that often get ignored.A pal of mine with a small company, pays a mobile valeter by the hour on a Friday AM to clean all the staff cars on-site. Doesn't cost much and everyone gets a nice shiney car for the weekend. (good for motivation and friday attendance)
