A list priced £4,300 2003 estate car. Nissan Primera (yeah I know but it's a 2nd car to do shopping and baby stuff).

And any top tips on how to approach the haggling stage?

depends on lots of factors.. I'd hope to walk away with it at 4k, plus a full tank and some tax assuming nothing else needs doing to it.

If you first offer doesn't embarrass you, it's not low enough.

This. I tried it when buying my last car, ended up getting a deal I didn't think was possible - if you don't ask you don't get!

Although the man I had recently who offered £1000 for a Hummer H1 which is priced at £39,995 was taking this approach a little too far.

Thanks for the relevant replies - so if I go in at 3500, cash in hand and start with a few book prices in my pocket? 500 off for the cambelt etc if not done?
