Write off valuation
Discussion
I am just starting the battle with the insurance company about the write off value of my wife's car.
I understand that the ombudsman would support the average value taken from 3 sources
Glass's, Parkers and Capcalc.
I have paid for Glass's and Parkers but you need to be in the trade for Capcalc
Any one help with a Capcalc valuation for a 1997 SAAB 900 2.3 se Convertible 111000 miles in very good nick mechanicaly and bodywise ?
Cheers ( and wish me good luck)

i would forward examples of the same car with the same spec etc that are for sale
pistonheads/ autotrader/ ebay/ saab owners club etc etc
obvously what they are up for and what they sell for but then you argue
I can say I have done this successfully with motorcycles in the past, after all, that is a fairly accurate guide to what it will cost you to replace like for like. Never referred to any of the trade guides, just written a short statement about my bike, FSH, low miles etc... and sent off with similar bike ads.pistonheads/ autotrader/ ebay/ saab owners club etc etc
obvously what they are up for and what they sell for but then you argue
I've experience of doing this twice and both times I have been pleased with the eventual payout.

)I have done this a couple of times for company vehicles. The key is that the money is supposed to enable you to buy an exact replacement vehicle. CAP and what have you are only guides, the only real place to look is the marketplace.
I just spoke to the assessor on the phone, we went through on-line ads on Auto Trader for similar vehicles, argued a bit about specs and locations and then agreed a value we were both happy with. It helps if you have a definite, but fair, value in mind when you start.

)When mine was written off, they went on Autotrader, searched for an identical car (or as close as possible) within 100 miles from my post code and took the average of the first 10 (or as many as there was).
Could you ask them to do something like this as opposed to looking at trader guides? Do your research first though, Glass's and Parkers may be more in your favour!!!
