Windscreen defrosting?!

Hello All,

With the frost pretty bad for the few days, what tips does everyone have for defrosting the car!

I see so many people driving with tiny holes scraped on their windows, this is asking for trouble.

My tip:

1. spray de-icer on the windscreen at night and in the morning the frost is 90% clear!

PS. If in a hurry I put warm water on the windows!!

Boil kettle, then throw over windscreen. Works every time. You might want to wear glasses on your drive to work though.

De-icer is bad for paintwork.

I just use an old loyalty card thing to scrape off the ice.

Switch on heated rear screen, switch on heated front screen easy! Might even put the heated seat on to.

No scraping from me. Warm water from the tap, easy




Definately don't go for the boiling water option

Wipers on intermittent and pour plenty of cold water on the screen. Shouldn't crack the glass and the wipers clear the water away before it refreezes. Works every time.

You don't actually have to boil it, you know. Just warm water works fine.

Incidentally, I've been doing this for yonks and have never had a problem with any cracks or anything.

Extension lead + electric fan heater. 5 mins and it's warm and de-iced.

(although my battery can't take the heated rear window and the heaters at the same time

There have been many instances of cars being stolen whilst this method is used, one not too long ago the owner was actually run over and dragged down the road, she is now paralised I believe.

I don't see what's wrong with a simple scraper. Takes me all of 2 minutes to get round the car, unless it's been an excessively cold night.

...really? Got any science behind that? I'd say it's wrong but Physics is a royal PITA at doing odd things sometimes, so I'll reserve judgement until someone explains the process.
