Late RX7 or Supra?

Looking in the classifieds, late standard RX7's and Supra's are some what of a rarity...is it actually possible to get say a 2000+ model of either. Do any of the guys actually own such a beast?

If you're serious about getting something like that then your best bet is to import one from Japan.

I'd also suggest that, for the Supra, looking at '97 onward models with low mileage would be a more sensible idea than concentrating solely on '00 onwards. Especially in standard form as they really are bulletproof.

Yeah I guess it would have to be an import as there are so few late unmolested examples already over here. A 98+ RX7 is one of my dream cars, the revised bumpers/lights etc adding to it's gorgeousness! I bet you could count the number of 98+ RX7's in the country on one hand?

I'm not certain but I think some piece of legislation banned the later rx-7s from being road legal after a certain date.
Ebay Australia always has quite a few 2002 Bathurst RX-7

You can get RX7s right up to '02 I believe but they will likely be the run out "Spirit R" models which are a) rare as hens teeth and b) fooking expensive.

Think £15-20k sale price in japan, before shipping, duty and registration.

As far as Im aware you can't import Jap cars newer than 10 years old without a full model report, sadly the RX7 does not have a model report and hence the 2000+ cars are very rare.

However, being 2010 now you may be able to import one next year.

You can import as many as you like from whenever you like. It's registering them that's the problem, not importing them

Opposite for me. Either way the RX7 is arguably the better looking car.

well, not in my area, but RX-7s are really a piece of art, i dont really like the headlights on supra, but the rear looks nice.

Theoretically speaking whats to stop you registering them as kit cars?

So long as they are over 10 years old, registration is as simple as importing, paying the duty, applying to the DVLA and getting them MOT'd.
