Just had a conversation with a nice chap at BMW Park Lane...

I bought my MINI Cooper S two years ago from their MINI section (part of the same branch) at the time it was a year old...now its just turned 3.

They have a nice, 4 year old E90 330i M Sport there, and for an extra £15 a month, and 1K upfront, they can get me into it....

Now, I know I'm going into an older car - but you would - wouldn't you?

By the way, before people moan about financing, I get a car allowance from work, and I like to swap cars fairly often, so the finance packages work nicely.

My question is, sahll I take the plunge?
If not, why?

I'd rather have the MINI in all honesty. E90 330's are nippy, but not what I'd call a fun car. A MINI is.

Nope, not yet, may take a test drive tomorrow afternoon after work - problem is, I can't imagine it's going to be the best test drive - the west end, 4 weeks before xmas, and snowing smile

You want to buy a RWD drive when it might snow!!! You'll die for sure.

I'd do it.

I used to have a CLK, so I'm sure I'll be OK.

I'm not sure. In need of a bigger car, or just an option to take it up?

Test drive to be sure.

Well, I would like a bigger car - as much fun as the MINI has been (Le Mans trip, Highlands etc etc), I do find myself wishing I had

A. 4 doors
B. A boot
C. An automatic gearbox
D. a bit more poke?
E. rear wheel drive.

Especially on my commute into work. The MINI has a fairly heavy clutch and just completely unforgiving suspension - now I realise the M Sport Bimmer isn't going to be like riding a magic carpet, but I think the added weight of the car might make it's damping a bit better.

I guess I really do need a drive in it.

All the above I think have come as a result of having turned 30 this year.

Do it, I'd imagine the BMW being the bigger car with a bigger more unstressed engine can handle higher mileages and years better than the MINI anyway, so 3 yrs old vs 4 yrs old shouldn't really matter as long as the BMW has been looked after.

Well, until you said this, I was thinking maybe, but an Automatic?! Really
and you're 30 mate, not 80, plenty of time for driving a 4 door Automatic when you have to, 330 or not wink
Seriously, only you can decide. Sounds like you can make the decision about which car gives you a happier feeling, so just go with your heart.

Does it? One thing I will say for the S is that it does have a lovely hiss-gurgle-pop soundtrack.

London rush hour driving. I never used to be an advocate of autos, but when my firm put me in a CLK I quite enjoyed the ease of it. It does make a difference. I suppose its a different type of fun isn't it? Bit like bumming your wife - technically, it's flawed, doesn't mean you don't like it.

Bit harsh to tell Matt you've been bumming his wife on the internet?
