Can the next 911 be fixed?
Discussion
All we hear year in and decade out is about the 911's steering: "its got great steering" or "the feel is unbelievable" etc....and now quite simply (unless they figured out how to make electric steering feel EXACTLY like hydraulic steering) the whiz bang new ELECTRIC steering will put an end to that- yes even Renault don't make 911 level steering.
Question will there be any way to REPLACE said electric steering system with the old hydraulic units? I'm sure the aftermarket big boys like ruf are thinking about this. Not saying it will be anything remotely easy. Maybe a 10 or 15k option?
Very sad though that the 911 will officially go numb in the hands for 2012. Xsadface

They already moved the 911 (and Cayman/Boxster) a long way from the top of the steering quality stakes with the odd variable ratio rack they fit these days, IMO.
I dare say the next one will be good enough to sell, just like the last one, and that's all that matters to Porsche.

Not sure how a car that hasn't been driven by the press never mind the public, can have any issues with lack of steering feel.
That like starting a thread moaning that the MK4 ford focus has too little power and a small boot.
And the Dilithium crystals in the Mk28 focus has serious reliability problems That like starting a thread moaning that the MK4 ford focus has too little power and a small boot.

Yes, after it has come out and people have driven it and decided whether the steering is s
t of or not.O/T but does anyone else absolutely hate the headlights on the 2028 Honda Civic?

Just thought about it and youre right. Also the Ferrari 472 has missed a trick by not fitting a V10 but instead going for hybrid diesel power. Disastrous said:

bloody awful aren't they!!I have driven a few hire cars with EPAS and yes it is less feel some than regular HPAS they weren't that bad when on the move, sure it was lifeless and light as a feather at low speeds but at normal driving speeds it wasn't that bad. I'm sure Porsche will find a way of feeding back what the front is doing to the driver so you needn't worry.
ETA: I doubt it would be an easy swap out to be honest. There is quite a bit of stuff with an HPAS unit so fitting it in a car not designed for it would probably cause problems, especially as the EPAS will be plumbed into the cars computer and the car will be designed to work with the EPAS.

Is it broken?
No its not.insertsmirkand Porsche didn't ruin their reputation with the Van and the limo, no?
Whoever recommended I turn to Porsche forums I agree. Indeed its beginning to feel a lot like car magazine forums (look at the evo forum for god sake) and general forums like pistonheads might not be the place for real enthusiasts. J
