I've seen a car I like in the classifieds (a 2001 S3) but can't get to view / drive it in the near future but would be willing to take a chance on the word of a trusted specialist.

Are there any inspection companies that go beyond a basic inspection and check the "known niggles" with specific vehicles?

Obviously I can ask the seller lots of questions but it's always nice to know an independent has given it a good going over.

The car is in Scotland, Ayr to be more specific so it's not just a case of me popping a few miles down the road.

Or am I getting carried away and would a regular inspection be more than enough for a non-exotic mainstream A3 with a few "S" bits?

Phone owner see if he is willing to take car for MOT at your expense and choice of garage.

Ask in scotland forum for reccomened MOT garage in area

Book car in for MOT and ask for a report back on condition of car also

Job done, if you don't buy car then owner has full MOT for his troubles
