Does anyone know of a decent sports steering wheel that has been designed with some level of crash protection in mind: my pre-airbag Porsche has a period sports steering wheel with an exposed metal hub/boss and I know in a frontal collision this would cause serious head injury...

What about harnesses. Something like this http://rallynuts.com/motorsport/Road_Harnesses_235... and at least you keep the car original.
