my mum has a had a 55 range rover sport for 3 years now and big bills have started to occur, about 3k in the last 6 months or so.

its also started having more issue's with starting in a morning and throttle reponse.

her mileage has started getting a bit silly, so needs to replace with something more economical than 12mpg.

must be a luxurious 4x4 for under 30k and needs to be under 3 years old.

she likes "square cars not round ones"

go...

Q7? It's "squareness" could be debated though...

There are a number of BMW X5's on 07 plates or newer both V8's and diesels available for that money, and just fit decent all weather not summer tyres.

rx - good shout, dont see many. (not sure about its squareness)
q7 - agreed, is it round or is it square?
x5 - she doesnt like these, a drive may persuade her though
rr - she would love this car, but is gonna be any cheaper to run that current rr, its on 18 months newer.

i still cant believe the key aspect of this car is "squareness".....

They don't come much squarer than a Discovery. The new ones seem to be ok too.

Mazda CX-7?
Ok, not hugely economical but quite a nice looking car, even in the scheme of SUVs!

A friend has just replaced an ML270 with the 200hp D5 XC90 and it is a great car, huge boot and exceptionally comfortable.

Excellent economics. "This car needs plugging in to a diagnostic machine to highlight a worn part. I think I'll sell it and buy something else." thumbup

It does.
The TDV8 is (currently?) only available in the Range Rover.
