Hi, I wonder if anyone can help???

I went on a driving day a short while ago, I got to drive a lamborghini gallardo an Aston Martin DB9, Ferrari, 911 etc..... Best day out, good fun!!

Prior to this day out I sold my pride and joy my BMW M3 E46... After the driving day I realised that I never really got to drive my car to its full potential and vowed that next time I had a nice car I would go on a track day or something!!!

I have now recentley bought a 911 Carrera C2 and want to get to drive it properley.. On the driving day I went on, I had the coaching of the instructor and gained lots of confidence in the car... Breaking very late, gear selection etc...

I suppose what I want to know is, if there is any track day events where a good driver/instructor will jump in with you and and do the same????

Any suggestions??

Congrats on the new purchase, but be wary of going to a run wot a brung day, there will be chavs in proper st boxes driving madly at these type of events

On the other hand there could be richer chavs in Porsches not knowing how to use them properly, comes down to luck of the day really, just because someone can spend more on a car, doesn't mean they can necessarily use it better. I would try and find a open pit lane, run by a track day organiser, there are usually instructors available at these type of events. Just avoid speed sunday at Knockhill I think it is.

The obvious answer is the Porsche experience centre at Silverstone, but I actually found the Mercedes Benz 1 hour experience very helpful and enjoyable too.

As said avoid track days where you can go on for 20 mins for £30 or similar.

The novice days at Brands Hatch (and, I assume, other circuits run by the same people) are very good. The best behaved track day's I've ever been on, very few crashes (we did an entire morning with no incidence once...it took the non-novices about 3 laps before the first spin!) plenty of track time (2 times we went they had it open pit lane, we virtually had the track to ourselves) good instructors and brands is a slow-ish circuit with plenty of run off so if you do get it wrong you probably won't bend anything.

when i went to goodwood for a track day there were several nice cars there, an aston v12 vantage, porsche cayman, bmw m5 and several cars from the revival that were doing last minute shake down sessions, and me in my 1.1 citroen C2. smile goodwood always seems to be a good place to do a track day.

Not much room for error at Goodwood, however, and its very fast. Probably not ideal for a first trackday.

I'd suggest:

a) posting on the trackdays forum; and

b) doing a trackday at somewhere like Snetterton or Brands Indy

Lots of people recommend Bedford for a first trackday, as it has lots of runoff almost everywhere, but I do find it crushingly dull.

Edited to add, pretty much very trackday organiser will offer instruction at a reasonable price - the instructors will do exactly what you are looking for. Worth asking for someone who knows about driving a 911.

im with you on the room for error but that was my first track day, but i was in a 1.1 so it was fairly slow so i could learn the track easily.

I'd imagine Bedford would be a good circuit to learn on.

Just checked out the bedford race track events... Looks good, also instruction available.

might struggle with the 101db limit though!! Are they really strict on things like that?

I wonder how much it would cost to hire the stig for the day?? ha ha ha

Car Limits are very good if you're close to the South East.

In my experience http://www.motorsport-events.co.uk/ and http://bookatrack.com/ are both excellent and have good instructors. They don't tollerate bad driving / idiots so no need to worry about that sort of thing.
