Insurance for winter months?
Discussion
Hey,
I would like to buy a 2nd car to use during the winter, but will only be keeping it for a few months, possibly until March/April, what would be the best way of insuring it?
If I take a 12 month policy but cancel it after say 4 months, would I get a refund on the remaining 8 months?
I did think of insuring it month by month with a temporary policy, but being 21 its still really expensive or they will only insure me on something like a 1.0 Corsa.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Cant you just add it onto your policy for the winter months? When I bought my suzuki I managed to have that as my main car and the R25 before it as a second car + my dad being a named driver all for £48 a month...
I just told them that I required my dad to be driving the Rover while I was going to be driving the Ignis. + I needed the insurance on it to meet people for test drive the car.
Who are you with? Multicar policy?
Do you have storage and would you be using your other car during the winter months? You can just put your own car in the garage and change the insurance over to the 4x4, although dont think you'll be covered for theft ect...

I can add a 2nd car, but have to start my NCB again. Will be using my main car through the winter aswell yeah. It's just that my main car (Boxster) isn't very good at winter driving. Seeing as I couldn't get it off my drive last year for a couple of days.
I work shifts, 2 days and 2 nights then 6 days off. So the 2nd car will be used to go to and from work mainly, but also when its abit too slippy to use the Boxster. Just using my Boxster when its dry and on my 6 days off.
Insured with Bell, will ring them and see if they can let me add a 2nd car throughout winter.
Cheers

You can add a second vehicle up to 120 days temporary cover with bell but you are probably at over a hundred for additional cover. I work shifts, 2 days and 2 nights then 6 days off. Be careful. I paid £390 to insure my car for a year from May. I rang up to cancel the policy today and was told the refund was £15. The insurance company took most of it and the broker, A Flux, took £25. I was not impressed to say the least. The last company I did this with were very fair about it.
