Insurance recommendations please
Discussion
Once again car insurance has left me with the taste of bitter disappointment so I'm looking for recommendations from the mighty people of PH
I've been with NFU Mutual for the most part of the past 4 years, they've always destroyed the prices and service offered by the majority of insurance companies, but this year they seem to have gone a bit mental.
I know insurance prices have gone up, but they really do seem to be taking the pizz somewhat
Last year and this year I had car insurance with them, firstly on a 97 Volvo S40 1.8i £325 fully comp, 10k per year
Then a Eunos Roadster which they insured for £367 10k and fully comp
So now I've sold the bike and thought "ahhh I'll buy this nice, clean Volvo 940 estate then I can potentially start my project" I picked up the phone thinking it would be the usual good price...ohh I was wrong!
The insurance quote came back at £922 fully comp 10k per year
WHY?
I live in the same postcode which has seen a decline in vehicular crime, the Volvo is low risk, low power and not even a turbo...
I wouldn't mind if I had some motoring convictions or claims, but I dont!
Anyway, I'm looking to better that price (naturally) so thought I would try tap the knowledge of PH for some recommendations

Can't really help much but mine's gone up similar to yours. Another year of driving experience, another year of no claims, same address etc and mine went up £150 for a lowly Saab. Ridiculous. Have you tried calling up some of the smaller specialists rather than trying the comparison sites? Sometimes you can get a bit of a better deal if you get to speak to a human.
I'm with Adrian Flux (broker) who placed me with Equity Red Star. Good price and ERS are fantastic. Just had a total loss unfortunately and can't praise ERS enough. If you have to rely on the insurance you need to know you are covered and these guys have been fantastic.
Not too impressed with Adrian Fux to be honest - bit disorganised and you have to double check every bit of paper they send you as it seems to be wrong quite often (or at least mine was!) you may want to see if you can get ERS through someone else?
The year before I used Elephant but my experience wasn't a pleasant one when I was hit by a Third Party (whose insurers admitted liability and wanted to help). If you don't care about cover just legal compliance they are cheap. Personally I would pay extra to know I was properly covered!!

I would like to be fully covered and could use a half decent company who are reliable. NFU were that although I've never had to claim while with them, but I'm not willing to bend to their idea of a reasonable quote.
Seems ironic that not a month after they began advertising on the Roger Melley that their premiums went up to double and even triple

Scott, it's all messed up this year. Last year I paid £520, FC, unlimited mileage on the turbo. Renewal came through at £1275... Naturally I told them where to stick it but even the usual trawl of the websites could only get it down to about £800 ish. However, if you plan on doing any track days whatsoever then call Lisa at Competition Car Insurance as she got me a quote for £690 with 5 track days included. Not as good as last year but the best by a long shot in the current insurance climate.
