Quick question. Can I wax a car, but leave it on? ie not buff it off.

I'm leaving it standing for a bit, and wanted to wax it as I hate standing water on the bonnet and roof. However, I thought as its not going anywhere, I could just leave the wax on for a few weeks.

After Christmas I'll give it a good wash again.

I waxed my car a few months ago but it started raining so I left it on. It rained for about 3 days before I wiped it off.

Seemed fine!

If its in a dry and enclosed area I've seen detailers leave polish or wax on for a few hours because of loads of technically paint care bks.

But leaving it on for a few days isn't necsecery.

In view of the sunny (if cold) day here today I treated the Accord to a coat of AutoGlym's finest today, and have to say, it looked rather good afterwards.

Then rainX'd all the windows, wiped down the leather and reversed it back into the garage.

I love working from home sometimes !

Our cars get a coat of protective wax as they come out of the factory for shipping which is then cleaned off when they get to the dealership for customer prep. Whether it's remotely similar to anything you cam buy in Halfords or online remains to be seen.

I would imagine dirt and grime would stick to the wax after a short time and the wax would have to be carefully washed off as not to damage the paint finish? but I would guess the wax whilst stil on the car would maybe offer beter protection to the paint underneath? wax make would also be a factor?

This.

I'd buff off the residue.

I'm going to buff it tomorrow.

I'd already done it when I posted!

A lot of caravanners do just that with vans at the end of the season. All the grime sits on the dry wax and is then wiped off when they want to use it.

Mer is good for this but better to wash wash and buff even more in winter.
