Whilst clearing out my piles of Maxim and FHM mags, before the wife finds I am storing mags that are over two years old, I came across a mention of this car in the March 2001 copy of Maxim. Still looks a little interesting, but when I went insearch of their web site, it throws back an error. Anyone know if any of these cars made it to customers, or if they are still going?

IIRC it was another parts bin special (built around Impreza running gear) with great potential that simply folded without trace.

It was a bit of a shame, because despite the rather.. different styling it apparently went like stink and handled like a dream...

I think the rather strange marketing strategy they used probably helped its demise. Something to do with customers investing in the company to get the car? I cant remember all the details Im afraid.

While we are on the subject, has anyone heard anything about Lea-Francis recently?

I have been infrequently speaking to the owner of Delfino (Allard Marx) over the past couple of years, he got the prototype back and was pushing ahead for production.

Haven't spoken to him for a while, will try to find out what happened. He did invite me down to drive the car but I never got around to it.

The car was used as a clever mousetrap to pull in punters to Allard Marx's branding consultancy. I certainly fell for it As I recall, he was still tinkering with the spec the last time we spoke, but I really can't comment on it's ever going to make it into production or whether it was ever intended to...

I actually contacted the company around December to check the current situation and enquire about testing the car for Pistonheads.

Situation is that they are planning a new, improved company demonstrator and any tests will have to wait until that's ready. We'll keep you posted.

Didn't they have huge problems getting parts - Subaru wouldn't supply the directly or something similar so they had to try and find crashed ones that were useable... Could be the reason they've been a bit quiet recently
