O/T David Blaine
Discussion
Am I the only one that thinks this bloke (http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/entertainment/showbiz/newsid_2003000/2003735.stm) is a complete twat? So he can stand on a pole for 35 hours?? ooooo great how very useful, and he can jump into some cardboard boxes?? Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs...
I cannot believe it, he gets nearly as much media coverage as my cat!

Did you see him try to mind meld with Eamon Holmes (if I spilt that rite)?
"For his next spectacle, a chained and handcuffed Blaine is due to be thrown into the freezing River Thames in London from Tower Bridge.
He hopes to escape his chains before surfacing alive in a stunt that echoes Houdini's escape from New York's East River.
The trick is due to take place in February 2003."
Thats the year its going to freeze

I have to admit to being a fan of David Blaine....but only when he does his magic acts on the streets. The looks on dumb Americans faces are priceless and his tricks are very good.
However, in recent times he seems to be branching into feats of endurance and not magic tricks which he is so good at. The stunts like standing on the pillar, or encasing himself in ice, or burying himself alive could be attempted by many other people given the right state of mind and training. The tricks that he performs on the streets are very impressive and would build his reputation far higher than any endurance stunt.
Mr Blaine - stick to what you do best! Throwing cards through windows and not standing still for a few days!

Its not all that impressive either really, especially when you compare it to the Indian fella's who stand still, or roll, or hold one hand above their head in praise for years and years and years not 36 bleeding hours!
I agree, Mr Blaine, stick to your slight of hand close up magic its what you are best at.
Matt.

I don't see...not being funy..why anyone can care enough to write a note on here? What on earth leads to you claim the guy's a tosser?? I mean really.... he's off, doing whatever..to test himself and make some money through publicity. I personally find it more amazing that Supermodels egt paid thousands a day for walking up and down - but it doesn't make me cross!
jees man...calm down! You may not want to do it, but it's not like it's affecting your life or anything is it?!

I don't think any of us are calling him a tosser as such - although if you ever see any interviews with him he does not come across as being exactly normal!
I think that most people are just saying he should just stick to being a damm good magician and not go into strange endurance type events.
Anyway, writing these posts keeps me from doing any serious work so more power to them!!! Do you realise how dull my job is???
By the way......just heard on the news thats he's finished but thought I heard that he had finished early? Anyone confirm?

No I think he is a twat, sorry but whilst the street magic stuff is good (if simple) this standing on poles, burying himself and standing in blocks of ice is all a little bit silly. What really annoys me though is the way he acts when he is interviewed, 'mind meld' horseshit, primadonna more like.
Grrrrrr

David Blaine stuns world with latest feat
American magician David Blaine will undertake his biggest-ever feat of endurance, when he attempts to stand in a busy British Accident & Emergency department on a Saturday night until a doctor sees him. And to make the task even more to difficult, he will travel to the hospital by public transport.
Mr Blaine, 35, has set a number of endurance records during his career — including being entombed in a bloke of ice, buried alive and, most disturbing of all, being interviewed by ace GMTV reporter Eamon Holmes — an experience which left him in a catatonic state.
This latest stunt has however caused consternation among his showbusiness friends who feel that he will be pushing his powers beyond their limits.
Fellow weird-arse Yuri Geller was clearly worried. "He's gone too far this time," the highly talented Romanian bender of spoons told The Rockall Times. "Its bad enough hanging about in a hospital when you're pissed up and have a carving knife embedded in your back. To try it sober is madness."
Experts predict that as a non-urgent case, Mr Blaine could have to wait four or five days to see a doctor, nearly twice as long as someone with a life-threatening sucking chest wound. The additional burden of travelling by train and bus to the hospital could extend the total to six days and beyond.
Nevertheless, Mr Blaine's entourage remains confident that he can achieve his goal. "He's been in training for over a year now," his manager confirmed. "He has been drinking his own urine for six months in an attempt to acclimatise to the vending machine instant coffee that will be available and has spent many hours avoiding eye contact with pissed-up Scotsmen."
A spokesman for the NHS said that, despite his celebrity status, Mr Blaine would receive no preferential treatment and, in fact, may well receive no treatment at all.

Erm, me, and all my mates, you stand at the correct angle, lift yourself up on the toes of your furthest foot whilst keeping the other one flat, people see you rise, gasps of astonishment.

Did any of you see the programme on him to weeks ago.
He was flying in the street !!!
Come on who on here can do that, just rise up a foot of the ground ?
He is by far the best entertainer around (apart from Derren/Darren Brown, who really is the daddy).
you're God. I thank you

He doesn't though!!!
Didn't you see "Magic's biggest secrets revealed"
Showed you EXACTLY how they do that.
On the street he only raises about 3 inches, this is done by placing your feet together, keeping one of the balls of your feet on the floor and the other foot parallel to the floor and going onto tip toes (it's easier if you do it, especially to 10yr olds

) Then what they do to show you the raising a foot off the ground is attach him to a crane in the same place later on or the next day. They look back at the film and get actors or random people to wear the same sort of clothing as the people on the 1st day.
edited to add: just as moleamol said.
