"Only a fool breaks the 2 second rule..."
Discussion
I can't believe Jackie Stewart is so pre-eminent on PH today. Incredibly coincidental as this morning, trundling along the clogged arteries of Albion 2002 at a steady 60, inside lane but moving at least, my mind turned to his great phrase viz a vis the correct observation of stopping distances in situations of emergency braking.
Like most of you, I try my very hardest to adhere to the wisdom of the dour Scottish Knight; he really does know what he's doing ito of wheelsmanship.
So what could be more gauling than Vectra after infernal Vectra slicing up my deliberate 2 second gap after deliberate 2 second gap again and again and agin.
I think I HATE this as much as middle lane turdolatry.
Let us wish upon this vermin a fate at least as vile as that for their middle lane bastard offspring.

P1ss orf you w*nkers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whats even more galling is that half these Vectra Drivers will have more points on their license than allowed but their boss wrote a letter saying they had to have a license for their job.
Tough! nobody lets criminals out of jail because they won't be able to do their 3 hour shift at the local petrol station so why should these numpties who often exhibit appauling road manners be given any special treatment - as I've said beofre driving licences are a PRIVILEDGE not a right.

If you read the Pass You Advanced Driving Test book it has something to say on the matter. Basically there is recognition that whilst the two second rule is the proper way to drive that in order to make progress you may sometimes need to compromise...but then should once again increase the gap.
It *is* intensely frustrating I agree. Especially when they pull into your braking distance...then proceed to tailgate the numpty in front who is taking two hours to make it past the car in the middle lane by passing it at 0.00002mph relative velocity.
Part of the reason that they do this is that they do not anticipate needing to pass a middle lane vehicle..so they're practically up its backside when the swerve violently into the outside lane (into your safety gap). They're not deliberately inconsiderate I suspect. THey're just sh*te at driving.

It winds me up no end when someone drives into the 2 second space in front of me but the sad fact is it's unavoidable with the large amount of traffic trying to use the same bit of tarmac these days. Improve public transport, put freight on the rails and canals and this country would be a load better.

I think DeR's inital post indicates that he was travelling in the inside lane, with the Vectra numpties pulling into his braking gap from the right. This is a right old pain in the ar$e, as the only way to fix it is either to slow down or overtake. Either way, the numpties are effectively dictating your speed. Grrrrrr

Vectras - obscene - no knowlege of any 2 second rule. Maybe punishment enough that they are, after all, driving Vectras. The rattling and squeaking of the dash accompanied by the relentless whine of the "bag of spanners" engine should qualify as punishment enough (or maybe not - make 'em drive a Kia Pride - the action of the over exhuberent sewing machine action should be enough to give them nightmares eternal.........)
simpo one said: '3 secs in the wet'
But if you can't stop so fast due to the wet road, neither can the car in front... or are you thinking of spray obscuring vision?
If the car has already stopped (for example hitting the jack-knifed truck) then you have a problem, don't forget braking goes in a wave back down the road that gets tighter.
Its so annoying when driving an ordinary car (like myself) that someone decides you don't need the distance you created and moves in-between.
2-second rule is a life saver..HOWEVER here in Germany we have a big problem with it, as when I'm moving at 250kph or higher a 2-second gap is long enough for any numptie in a Citroen 2CV or equal shitemobil (I include muckycedes 190Ds here, as they seem to be the biggest offenders) to dive into my lane at 101.0009 kph and force me to do an emergency braking.......
but we do have one saving possibility, someone who forces, due to their action/innatention, to do an emergency braking can be done for "threatening behaviour" (as you can for "leaning" on the numpty and flashing your lights) but you've got to have a witness before the BiB (or boyz in green here) will do anything about it.......
