Help with My computer please

I have a problem with my computer. I had to reinstall another windows 2000 programme, along with a new Internet explorer.

And heres the problem: My "open in new window" is not working.

So, when I right-click, and do this, a new IE screen opo-ups, but nothing in it, and no address on the address page. Similarly, on the Autotrader website, I cannot "view" any of the cars, thus stopping me from doing one of my favourite past times (oops. Should'nt have said that...)

Any ideas??

I'm running windows 2000, with IE5.5..

I dont know how to fix it on 5.5, but you could give IE6 a try, its free to download from microsoft and its the latest one. worth a try.

The behaviour of opening in a new window or Autotraders photo viewer is the same as pop-up behaviour. Make sure you have cookies and activeX controls enabled. Find a safe setting level that works. Normally a clean install will enable most of this by default though. Have you changed anything or added any pop-up killing software? Try the IE6 update, but it may not alter the settings set under 5.5.

I may be wrong, but I thought Windows 2000 shipped with IE5.0, so can you uninstall the 5.5 seperately and reinstall? Did the 5.5 come from your ISP software (if you have any) and can you reinstall that? If it's ISP software they may have altered the default cookie settings etc in their version.

Give IE6 a whirl, and while yer at it plonk SP3 on with the IE 6.01 update. As much as I hate them Microsoft make it easy to keep your install up to date.

Use the Windows Update link under tools on IE.

Not convinced upgrading / reinstalling will work but there's a discussion here about what sounds a similar problem. Warning though, it starts diving into the Windows registry which isn't for the fainthearted.

It's a CLSID broken or a DLL not registered...
