Student hurled to death by catapult

An Oxford University student died after he was hurled 100 feet by a catapult and missed the safety net.

Bulgarian Dino Yankov, 28, a member of an extreme sports group, crashed to the ground, suffering serious spine and leg injuries, instead of landing in the net 30 feet above the ground.

He was airlifted to hospital after being treated by paramedics, but died of his injuries last night.

Mr Yankov, who was studying biochemistry, belonged to the Oxford Stunt Factory, a group that performs dangerous stunts for the BBC and the film industry - most famously the 700ft bungee sequence in the James Bond movie Goldeneye.
