Way off topic i'm afraid Ted.

Just been told I've got to go to Washington on Sunday for 2 weeks. Would like to make sure I see everything whilst I'm there. Anybody been? What's worth a look? Any car related stuff?

I've spent far too much time in DC (as we like to call it). Apart from the obvious tourist stuff (don't stare hard at the whitehouse or you'll get shot), get your arse down to Georgetown and have a poke about, we found a lot of good bars and eateries there.

Washington DC was home-town, so here are my additions:

- Smithsonian Museums.
- Georgetown (lot's of bars and restaurants).
- Adams Morgan (more bars and restaurants).
- Capitol Building (US Congress).
- Rock Creek Park.
- Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

Not car related, but the National Air and Space Museum is pretty interesting if you're into that sort of thing.

The Alamo, now that is a laugh...Its a couple of bricks under a piece of glass in the street. The Alamo that they charge you to go and look around is just a mock up that has been built more recently. Don't you just love the Yanks, hey we have no history so we will make some!! No offence intended of course as I would hate to get binned. (you do make good burgers)

I remember reading in the IHT a couple of months back that the CIA or a similar organisation are currently running an exhibition related to spying from the start of the Cold war (or perhaps earlier) to today. This exhibition was also mentioned in a programme on Channel 4 about physical disguses, the bloke featured was incredible at completely altering his apperance.

Air and Space museum! Lots of big stuff hanging from the ceiling - but you'll need most of a day to see it. I loved it and found the National Space Centre in Leicester to be distinctly underwhelming by comparison.

Also, if you're feeling emotionally up to it, go to the Holocaust Museum (other end of The Mall from the A&S). You won't like it necessarily, but you'll be glad you went. (Kinda like watching Schindler's List. The sort of film everyone should see, but not one for popping in the player on a quiet Sunday evening.)

You'll probably need to get w*nkered afterwards - what better opportunity to go to a bar, drink five bottles of light beer, and get amazed stares at being completely sober still.

Went on a stag do in DC. Saw some 'interesting' places that I hadn't seen on my own travels. Not recommended without the guidance of a local (in fact, not recommended!).

Make sure you know where you are if travelling alone. One quarter of DC has one of the highest murder rates in the whole US. The rest of town is ok.

Sounds like a business trip so you need to ensure some nourishing food while you're away from home:

You could spend 2 weeks at the Smithsonian alone - and it's free entry. Natural History and Air & Space parts are must-sees; but American history is a take it or leave it for me. Also the Freer Gallery of Art is worth visiting.
