Wonderful Wales/MGF driving twat.....

Just had two days driving round the Welsh hills around the Brecons. Me in the Tamora, Bennno in his new S2 Elise. Some of the roads that mags like Evo and Top Gear use. We had a fantastic time. Amazed by how well the new Elise goes. Cornering in it is superb and I was really pleased how well the Tamora went through the twisties too 
It was almost on a par with the Elise and I think the only downside to the Elise is mid range grunt when overtaking. Some of the mountain passes we went on were the best roads I have ever driven on.
On our way back today travelling down the A49 Bennno overtook a lorry and I followed.It was a safe bit of overtaking except for the dick in the Honda Accord I then passed who decided to accelerate to stop me from getting back in. I had to go even quicker than I wanted to just to get back in safely. If that wasn't bad enough, we rounded the next bend and faced a **** in a MGF trying to overtake a lorry when he had a blind corner infront of him, I had to lock the car up completely to avoid shunting Ben up the rear as he took evasive braking action to avoid hitting the twat in the MGF head on...
Bastard then drove past us grinning...
What is it with people who drive silly hairdressers cars like MGF's and old mans chariots like Accord's who think they are in a bloody Ferrari? The move the fool in the MGF was trying to make would have been insane in my 350 bhp TVR, let alone a coiffeurs tartmobile like an MGF... If it wasn't for the excellent brakes on our cars there would have been a huge fatal head on collision due to that dickhead not waiting for a safe place to overtake.
So, if you drive a silver MGF and it was you on the A49 today, make sure you never meet me and Bennno, because the next person you will meet is your f****g maker pal.
Rant over, that incident apart the last two days are the best I've ever had in a TVR!!

Hmm, know those roads well. Grew up around there.
Did you pass a small place called Crickhowell?? If so thats where I grew up and go back there when I can (not to see my folks but to drive around ).
The roads are great but there are plenty of traps for the unwary. Some of the roads have 3 lanes and the situation you described happens loads (the A465 is a good example).
My advice would be to go back in the summer as the sunshine makes the beautiful countryside even more attractive and there are plenty of places of interest/ye olde pubs to go to.

flasher...did you *follow* benno out? Its a bit of a no-no you know. Only pull-out to overtake when you'll be the only car doing it. Otherwise you can get the situation where the first car out makes it...and you don't..if you see what I mean.

Still. The plonkers who think its funny to accelerate hard whilst you're trying to overtake drive me mad too
. I had a middle-aged lady do it to me on a country road last year.
I had plenty of room to overtake before the corner. Flashed, pulled out...accelerated...and then had to floor it to go by as the silly bint pressed the pedal to the metal...after I was committed to the overtake.
I made it in front but had to brake harder for the corner than I would have liked. If the wife hadn't been with me I'd have blocked the road and had a few hard words with the numpty....

Not a problem in a car that does over 170mph and hits the ton in less than ten seconds. However, because I had to put the hammer down to pass him I entered the next corner a bit too quickly and consequently when Bennno was confronted with Mr Hairdryer in the MGF I had to brake twice as hard to avoid hitting them. I accept I should have possibly waited to overtake, but the whole thing was caused by two dickheads...

Like I say, thank God I have a car with such good brakes and that the MGF pulled back in just in time, otherwise it would have been total carnage... and all because the Honda driver has an ego problem and the MGF driver was under the misconception he was in a sportscar and not a hairdryer.

apart from your near accident I'm very jealous. I just spent a week travelling from london, down M4 then through Usk, abergavenny, crickhowell, builth wells then to rhayader, over a mountain in snowdonia (mental mental mental roads!!!!!!)ended up near aberdovey.

I was in my Jeep.. which whilst I was able to do some great off roading didnt give me quite the sportscar thrill!

Hear about job on Wednesday. There is an outsife chance I'll keep the Red Baron, but chances are it'll go to fund a house/garage deposit and an Ultima kit. It is still off the road as cage only arrived on Friday for fitment, and my tech is v busy at the mo.
Will meet up when it is going again - love the S2 - saw them being built on factory tour and nearly went for one in orange with black wheels, but needed more top end

Guys - surely a motoring tw@t is defined by their behaviour, not by their choice of car? In this case these two sound like complete @rses from their dangerous behaviour.
But why the back lash against MGFs, Z3s etc? I agree they do not compare to cars like the Elise or Boxster etc.. But surely as Pistonheads we should applaud people who choose ANY form of 2 seater, rear wheel drive steed? After all, they could have bought a Mundano, Golf etc. At least the MGF gives people some experience of rear wheel drive handling - and in years to come they will be affordable for driving enthusiasts with little cash. MGF or Golf GTi? I'd take the F if that were the choice.
15 years ago your choice of 2 seater 'sports' cars was limited to classic cars, or bloody expensive cars like the Porsche, Ferrari etc. The MGB, Triumph Spitfire/TR6 etc were long since dead and there were no reasonably priced alternatives (with the possible exception of Caterham and TVR).
Then along came the MX5 and the motoring world is now a much better place (IMHO!).
MX5/MGF/Z3 etc may not the purists choice, but surely they are a (at least a small) step in the right direction?
I agree totally wih you Griff2be. The number of friends I have who have gone and bought themselves a MX5 or other is amazing when they would never have bought something more extreme.
The more the merrier I reckon.
As enthusiasts we are the extreme in terms of driving and car choice and therefor we should not apply the same rulings, critiques and analysis of these other cars.
The driving described by Andy is both dangerous and reflective of a problem i and many others have had on the public roads. I wish I could drag them all out of their cars and reinforce my opinions about their driving on them.
It is not the car that makes the driving bad. It is the driver.
Through my dad getting back into 2 seater motoring through an Alfa Spider, he has progressed back into owning a 4.5 Chimeara. Would you call the Alfa a hair dressers car.
You may well do. But you wouldn't say it of the TVR. Yet it is the same driver ? He used the Alfa and uses the TVR to their potential.
I wonder what comments would have been passed if they had been behind an MGF being driven fast. It would therefor be more difficult to pass and most peopl then assume they are trying to race their TVR. They are not, they are just using their own.
My mother has a MX5 and bloody flies about, the amount of grief she gets from blokes in cars who can't get past 'cos they haven't got the grunt is unbelievable. When they realise its a woman nearing 60 aswell that really pisses them off.

Cool, one of my best mates lived on a farm (Farm? What a suprise!!) near Llangybi, we used to have fun in his fields in a buggy.
Problem i've found with Llangybi tho, is that its on quite a nice road. Giving the 200sx a bit of stick from Usk to Caerleon, and it's right in the middle! Can't they move the village to the right about 500 foot so I dont have to drop to 30mph?

Am I being unfair in assuming that it was blind in both directions? Pots calling kettles black perhaps.
Glad it worked out okay though, an experience to file away for future reference. I agree about the roads.
As Flasher said in his post the corner was blind, but he wasn't overtaking at that point, just following Bennno round the corner because they were unsighted. Of course they would never attempt to race in this kind of situation. Besides how do you know that Flasher doesn't have a nice shiny aluminium kettle.
no, it was as earlier i was ahead in the traffic (tamora having probs keeping up) pulled out to pass a lorry...flash booted the tamora and a Honda in between chopped his nose off by pulling out to pass the lorry as flash was passing.
By this time I am long gone, flasher passes the lorry and the geriatrics in the Honda in one move. I round bend in about 1/3 of a mile see MGF heading towards me on wrong side of road and flasher closing at warp speed 9 with throttle depressed deep in to the carpet.
Lets just say a rear wheel lock up from a following car at 90mph is very intimidating.
Lesson to be learnt is a) if you have an MGF dont drive like a dickhead overtaking in to bends and b)leave plenty of room to the car in front (flasher!)
Anyway all passed now and roads were worth it.

The real problem I had was that underpowered track day car of yours takes bloody ages to overtake things leaving me stuck in traffic...
As Bennno says the corner wasn't blind for us and we were both on the "right" side of the road when we rounded the bend. I was going to fast due to having to get round the idiot in the accord who chose to accelerate hard in an attempt to stop me overtaking him
I just can't believe there are people out there who will try to kill someone to stop them overtaking. Good job my car has 350bhp (and not 120 Ben) if he had done the same thing to your Lotus you wouldn't have got past him.....
However, none of that excuses the idiot in the MGF who was trying to overtake going into a blind corner...
