My Boss decided not to appear at work this morning. But sent me this instead.

'Mark, as you doubtless know him, there are only 3 available places for external contractors in 2003 in the enrolment team. It is due to the fact that the migration **** is ended or almost. At this time, there is not enough chance so that you still work with us in 2003.
On one hand, we should consider the fact that the knowledge of the French language was mandatory because any great majority of our customers are French-speaking. In this context, we gave the priority to the speaking French candidates, also while requiring that they have at least an average knowledge of the English language and (or) Dutch.
On the other hand you doubtless know that it enters ******* intentions to verify if it is possible to confide the external work to a single company with obligation of result. This new type of contract would begin on April 1-st, 2003. To prepare a harmonious passage towards this new type of contract we preferred to prolong for 3 months the contract of persons of the same company, persons whom we know already well.

Mark, knows that I am sad to announce you it, but it is a little the rules of the game for the contracting staff.

I can say that, if sometimes certain details of your attitudes did not please me, altogether I am very happy to have worked with you. If you leave ******, you can leave the high head: your work was always of excellent quality. ******** and myself, we thank you for it a lot. And we hope that you will find very quickly an employment where you can value the numerous competence which you acquired among us.

I ask you to cooperate completely during these last days with ***** ****who will have for mission to inform well all the current procedures within the team. I thank you for it in advance.'

I think he may have run this through a translator.

Or a mangle......

...you'll be wishing him a Joyeux Noel then?

Commiserations, but looks like you can do without them.

Err... a machine translator, if you don't mind. You don't often see professional human translators coming up with this kind of thing!!

Sorry about the message it's conveying, though.

Thanks to everyone. The funniest thing about the situation is that I manage Germany, UK, The Netherlands and Scandinavia. I have not encountered too many French speakers in these regions. Also the requirement for the French speaking tw*ts role is to speak fluent English and or Dutch.

I feel a less than harmonious hand-over period ahead ......

Sorry mate, not a good thing to have happen, but by your attitude, you'll get out and get something better in no time at all.

Very nice if you like sailors.

Seriously, I don't live there, but have visited several times and I like it. There is a quite impressive new shopping/entertainment complex called Gunwharf Quays that has cinemas/restaurants/bars/shops etc.

Portsmouth aint too bad at all. I guess it depends where you have lived in the past. Its hardly Monaco but house prices are fairly reasonable for the South East, its got a vibrant night life (again, ask Mungo ) and its close enough to London to be able to train up there in 50 mins. Right by the water and footie team is top on Div 1 !
