I was hoping to take my girlfriend to Dorset for a cracking New Years celebration, but the plan has been well and truly stuffed by my mother who refuses to let my girlfriend stay at the house. It's a stupid reason as well that I'm at a complete loss to understand

-anyhow, need an emergency alternative plan and suggestions for locations. Was thinking along the lines of a couple of cosy nights in a room above a Lake District pub.

It's got to be good though, my girlfriend was really looking forward to Dorset and I have to tell her the news tonight

Edited to add the budget is £££'s as opposed to ££££'s!

Good food, health club (decent size pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym (whatever that is) etc.

Also had a mates wedding reception there in July. Great place!

I'm curious to wht the "stupid reason" was, care to enlighten us ?

Easy jet is your answer, get yourself to Andorra (did the millenium there) you'll easily save yourself a couple of hundred quid in beer prices over a weekend (they virtualy give it away) and you get the winter wonderland mountain scenery bit, your other half will be well impressed

My old dear hasn't met my girlfriend and I think she's a bit embarresed because the house needs some work. I pointed out that my girlfriend really wouldn't be arsed about it since she's spent two years in Africa helping the needy, so could probably cope with conditions!

Admittedly my fault for assuming my mum would be up for it, but I really didn't forsee chipped plaster as being such a problem

Try Castell Deudraeth a new hotel near Port Merion, Penrhyndeudraeth in North Wales, stayed there last Jan, not New Years though, and was there again recently, big open log fires, huge rooms, again with open fires, some smashing walks around the beaches and you have the snow (maybe) capped mountain of Snowdonia behind you + good food, They have a web site, but you would have to look it up on Google, think they also do a New Years bash party too.

Actually come to think of it, this would make a good desitnation for a PH bash next year, some very entertaining roads to get there!

Me personally, I shall be in the sun with the wife and friends in live in Palma de Marjorca, Spaniards no how to do New Years!

I'm not for this New Year's Eve cobblers.

Quite why the hell my local pub landlord wishes to charge me the princely sum of five pounds Sterling just to sit in my usual chair and sup my pint is utterly lost on me. Furthermore, all the bloody freeloaders come in, get drunk, get well lairy and generally irritate us regulars. Not good

Personally, the 4 walls commonly referred to as "home" suffice in our household. We have a fireworks display at midnight (courtesy of the marina owner - chin-chin, Timothy !) and if you go outside, much coal passing and merriment prevail. Couple of phone calls, few more drinks, job's a good 'un, time to start sleeping off that hangover and look forward to next year....

Was about to suggest the Drunken Duck, but I see you have it sorted.
